Do I need to get it all aligned up again afterwards or will it still be OK?
Getting a good step spanner would be the only thing we could have done for the top mount. I keep planning to buy some, but they need to have a quite deep drop, anyone got any suggestions for a generic tool set for suspension legs?

Our fit ment is a bit of a F/O tight method using an imperial set.

Of course spring compressors really are needed and a bit of a sensible head will keep you safe.

The theory is that you do change Camber as ride gets lower. Steering geometry won't change much at all, but you could always get them checked.

    Setting the legs

To be honest each suspension leg will have slightly different characteristics so declaring points of measure. For Gary's car I started at a slight higher point:
Fronts - I exposed about 70mm of thread below the lower bolt
Rears - I exposed about 100mm of thread below the lower bolt.

    That'll give you a starts...

Then once fitted and run for 10 miles or so we measured the gap using a plum line down the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch.

Gary's ended up within 1-2mm of each other.

Mine have been on for a while, my escapades in Cadwell were with them and apart from my excursions (of course video'd) is testimaent that they did well.

the oxidisation on the legs was quite evident that certainly warrants wax oil, paint or other.

I find the ride quite choppy on the road, but once it's on track it's great.

Or if you lose the part, or want to buy new the part number is: 30616677

Part 9 on the schematic below:

From the looks of the pictures/description this part really does make ALL the difference, as I fitted new 'pressure rings' when I installed mine and they have been silent from the start!
From memory I think they were about £6-7 each

That's a really good addition thanks.. If I remember I'll take a photo from a spare leg o finish this off nicely... Does your software list the tools needed for the top nut and shaft?

Could be worthy addition as I have the 850/V70 tools
Centre socket to hold the leg tip
    Nut socket

Im really interested in these coilovers but have no idea what new parts i would need.
I really prefer replacing all the old ones with new, especially all the rubber or plastic parts.

I have a 00MY S40 T4. with lots of banging and danging from the front suspension so probably would need to replace alot of stuff.
Just dropped a new engine into my baby and lots and lots of other stuff replaced either.
So its time for new suspension, its a P1 btw, so i understand i need to change a couple thing in the mounts and drop links etc.

Could anyone who did this swap point out which exect parts i need?
    Link to front suspension parts:

(Im not sure i would order these from this perticular site so just name the part numbers please, thank you)

    Link to rear suspension parts:

    Thanks guys, youre the best.

Front- If you are fitting new and not dismantling the old ones.
Droplinks(longer versions from 2000-04), top Cap, plastic bearing and Cap(see above for the part I had missed.

Rears - Just a new top cap.

Remember you are going to be throwing away all the rubber stuff

To convert your setup from P1 to P2 you will need

    Front:
    Top mount-
    AUTO-30616824
    MAN-30652259

    Bearing cap-
    30616677

    Bearing ring-
    30616825

    Roll bar link-
    30884179

    Obviously x2 for everything!
All the rest of the components are the same.

The rears are the same (P1/P2), but if you want to replace all of the rubber/perishable parts on the rear (excluding roll bar links)

    Upper bush-
    30870376

    Mid bush S40-
    30874887
    Mid bush V40-
    30865276

    Hope it helps!

Whats the actual difference between the phase 1 and phase 2 strut tops?

P1 - bearing is small and molded-in to the top mount, sits directly around the strut shaft within the large raised middle portion.

P2 - Bearing is a separate component, and sits underneath the top mount in the large recess.

hi there i have fitted my coilover on my 03 V40 1.9D and ive just got a few wee questions:
1: when i reverse i seem to get a strange noise coming from the front end as if something i tangled round something but i never had this problem prior to fitting my coilovers so decided they must be the problem the abs wire and brake hose are clear and have a free range of movement so .... :S

2: my rear coilovers are really clunky ive not not the cups fitted that are mentioned at the start of the thread but i now have a set of them and reading through the thread and i cant quite figure out excatly where on the strut it goes so i was wondering if someone will have a photo of them fitted on someones. ive looked on vida but still cant figure out the conversion.

all input would be much appreciated planning on doing it in the next couple of days so a quick responce would be excellent.

    many thanks folks

    1. Is it a constant sound? Or just a clunk?

    2. How far did to wind the thread? Because these do not have any adjust ment other than height you may have not wound them up high enough.. Unfortunately they will not sit flush with the wheel arch with out some issues with the suspension bottoming out.
