    Replacing Wastegate

    Following on from this thread

    http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...ight=wastegate

I have done what was said in that thread, but its still rattling. I don't want to adjust it anymore as I have already done a full turn, and don't want to risk damaging the engine/turbo etc.

So my next thourght is to replace the wastegate, I've found this one on ebay but its coming from japan and dont know if its any good

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Turbo-Actu...item19d04392c9

Also it says in the description says that its a 0.6bar (8.8PSI) but others are available, but thats abit confusing to me being new to owning a turbo car

So has anyone got any thourghts on this wastegate or know anywhere else I can get one cheap?

Final question, is there any sort of upgraded wastegate available?

what you are looking at is the wastegate actuator, the wastegate is a part of the turbo, does the car have a boost gauge? as a rule of thumb, the hole of the adjuster should be about half way over the pin, so that you have to pull the actuator to get it over the wastegate pin.

You can't tell what the turbo is doing until you have a boost gauge, you will have to get one if you are fitting a new acctuator.

No, so that you can adjust the actuator, you would have to adjust the new actuator just as you would your old one, I actually doubt you will need a new one, you just need to adjust the one you have.

I have already adjusted mine by doing 1 complete turn, roughly what bar/PSI would I be able to run without doing any damage to anything?

Adjusting it one turn means nothing, when I first got my 850 I had to adjust mine 3 and a half turns to get standard boost.

Cheers mate, sorry for sounding stupid with all these questions. Any idea what bar/PSI standard boost should be on a low pressure turbo S40?

I think standard is 8psi, but you should be able to run 12psi with a manual boost controler.

These LPT motors are not very strong as regards the HPT ones.

I would fit a boost guage before you attempt anything as the safe max. boost is 12psi also go for the standard TCV and not the MBC, but then this is only my opinion!

Look at the chart to find your motor and standard boost figures.
