I'm thinking a little deeper myself. Yes the 1st issue was the turbo bearings and piston rings within the turbo were also worn, Second time round i'm so very sure it's somthin else.

Stop sulking and investigate the fault before you condemn it. If you've lost 4 litres of oil it's probably filled your exhaust box, and possibly intake system, with oil and that will smoke like a chimney and stink for ages unless you have a shot at cleaning it out or replacing it...

    got EXACTLY the same problem.

My cars STILL at my workshop looking sad. F'in thing!!!!!!!!
However, mine suffered low oil, breather system was clogged with clag. Crank breather pressure was high, turbo oil feed was fine, crank pressure was pushing UP the turbo return pipe and as a result, the oil in the turbo had nowhere to go other than out of the oil piston rings. Just had new piston rings and a pcv delivered. Fit it over the weekend and if its till smoking like a troop of troopers I'm likely to have a major sense of humour failure.
.....sooper moose. '97 850R manual. Yum yum.
