    Key's

Just wondering if anyone has tried coding a modern Volvo key like this...

to an 850 which has the immobiliser system and remote central locking/alarm. Reason I ask is I can get one of these keys and I am sure you could get the "flick" key blade part seperately. So I was thinking about getting a flick part cut to my 850's lock combination effectively giving me a flick key so doing away with the seperate key and remote setup. Anyone tried it or will I play guinea pig on this?

True, I already have a key so that's not too much of an issue. If I get a few minutes I'll try and code the remote part of the key to the car. If I can do that and code the chipped part to the igniton then it would just be a case of getting the key blade

Andy, very interested indeed to learn the outcome on this one.

Its certainly something I would purchase and use.

Martyn nice idea on the R keys

and do u know of anyone who can get a key cut locally?? I been trying a few local to me (ipswich/felixstowe) and none of the key cutters have the means to cut 850 keys...
I can easily get round the immobilisor chip/wiring so no need to programe in a new key...but would love a flip out fob...

Unlikely to be the February meet as, although I will be taxing it from the 1st of Feb, I am currently in the process of arranging service etc for this month so probably won't have it at the time of the meet as it will be at RT's..

Yeah I know.. Just a shame I've only got a run of the mill phase two key to go with.. That said it would be the ultimate flick key if it were to be an "R" key

Poor remote range? Mine works exceptionally well.. If I was ordering a Coke from the bar at the Dick Turpin I could probably unlock mine if it was parked where we all normally park...

I have a few ideas, one of them being Keys R Us.. that said if I can get it to work I was probably going to just order a key cut to the car's lock combination from Volvo tbh...

I'll give the remote side of it a shot at the weekend and let you know.. Other option is to gut the phase two key and modify it to take the 850 remote gubbings and chip from the 850 key which I may try if the first option fails.

my problem with getting volvo to cut the key is i dont have the key code with my car..
I am gonna have a look at a flip key in a few days when i next go to a scrap yard and see if i can get a flip key...fiat ducato are a flip key and the blade on them is very simlar to volvo 850 blade but only some ducatos are remote locking but still nice to have a flip key.
