Without reading the alarm codes it's hard to tell, but it'll more than likely be that the alarm siren battery has died.

There are a few threads on this across the Volvo forums, it doesn't sound like too hard a job but the new parts are £100ish. The V70 D5 I've just bought is saying the same thing, but I'm not planning on doing anything about it anytime soon - there's plenty otehr things that £100 will go to first

I changed mine before Xmas, not to bad a job, siren unit on an S60 (maybe same on V70) is behind drivers side headlight. it is bumper off unfortunately but still not too bad.
I had to change mine as the alarm was going off all the time at first, then not at all but i think the indicators were flashing which began to run down the car battery (a few ropey cold morning starts) made me worry enough to sort the job. Also when returning to my car sometimes it had randomly unlocked itself - drivers door only - v bizarre.
Since replacing all above problems have gone too. I got full kit from Rufe (genuine parts) and changed the alarm bonnet catch too (part of kit).

I agree 100% we have this one and we had the brakes checked and there's nothing wrong! Mind you it was a bit worrying when it first happened.

Then there's STC service again its been checked and nothing was wrong <spit spit spit>

Have you tried an UEM reset? I found info on how to do it on forum somewhere. I couldn't decide whether it was a wind up, or not but it did seem to help some. Maybe coincidence. Jury is still out.

Upper Electronic Module, can't 100% remember how to do it, try a forum search, if I find the post I'll put a link to it. It is a combination of ignition positions and holding the window switches in the up position for a set length of time.
