    Car Not Running Right???

First thing you should ALWAYS do is have the fault codes read. This will save you hours of questions on the forum, and more than likely save you money in the long run if dealt with by a competent dealer or garage.

So, unless you know exactly where the fault is such as a huge air leak, READ THE FAULT CODES!!!

Thanks Adam - do you possibly know how much do dealers / garages normally charge for code reading?

I had trouble with the dreaded light coming on, so rang around independents and the cheapest i could get the codes read/reset for was £32 + vat.
took the car there three times, getting the light reset but after it coming on again they said to take it to volvo to get it sorted out. So i bit the bullit and rang them to book her in, do you know how much they wanted to read/reset the fault codes? £22.50 + vat cheaper than anyone else, and they told me the problem(a broken vacuum pipe elbow) and if they fixed it for me they would waiver the charge for the reset, so got the problem fixed for under £40. So try your local volvo dealer you may be surprised!!

We charge £30 + VAT for a fault code read and that also includes isolating the fault, but for £60 + VAT we can also do 1 hour of rolling road diagnostics, ie we can put the car on the rolling road and determine where the car has a problem. This way we can find faults at high speeds, full load, part load etc, without having to drive the car on the road. This is something that no Volvo dealer will be able to do.

And you wonder why people come on here and ask for any obvious ideas of the fault (FOR FREE) before paying £40 plus for the priviledge LOL

My local dealer wanted 1/2 hours labour to read my codes, guess what - £55+vat - -- £110 per hour..............

    Guess what? I went home.

i bought this code reader off ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CREAD...QQcmdZViewItem

it works fine on my '98 s70 and i know the auction states it won't work on all volvos but it does on mine, cost me about £25.
