Lowering

Not keen on the height of the S60, especially at the back. What options are there for lowering it, which won't ruin handling? Don't really want to spend tons.

What size wheels does it have matt. If they are 17's replace them with 18's fills the gap better.

If they are alreay 18's and you DONT have 4C then just get a set of lowered shocks and springs.. koni, ibech, bilsteins... the choice is endless.

Changing the suspension isnt that big of a job, even a basic mechanic should be able to do it in a day easy.

If you are on the 4C chassis then I dont think that lowering is an option, Im told it would shag the handling good style.

17" and no 4C. Don't really want to get 18". Can I not just put some different springs on or will I need different shocks too?

Lowering springs on there own will be better than standard but it is better if you replace the springs with matching shocks, it just depends on your budget, but as a quick cheap option, springs will be fine.... i have eibach 40mm drop but many makes are available, again it depends on budget.

Eibach pro kit springs will level you out & give you a nice even 40mm drop.

I have had them on all my T5s to date. They are stiffer than OEM springs - so there is less body roll. It really depends on the dampers too. I have had 3 different types. Munroe Reflex & KONI FSD. Currently I am running Bilstein B3.

Bilstein are the hardest I had. Munroe the most luxurious & KONI were probably the best all rounders but not as good on the track as the Bilsteins.

I also have IPD stiffened ARBs.

It is difficult to pin the handling into just 1 item - the combination of all 3, plus the chassis - is what you have to consider.

If you wanted middle of the road then I would have the Eibach + Konis, IMHO - it is a very good fast road application set-up.

Oh yeah - it is unwise to just change the springs as the shocks have to come out anyway - so you may as well do the lot in 1 go.

Erm maybe I have got the numbers wrong. I am sure HLM said mine were B3 - but TBH these appear as springs in the Bilstein catalog - so I am now a bit confused.

Matt, don't you have a 'Sport' button on your dash that alters the shock settings from Normal to Sport (or am i thinking of the S80)?

If you do then i recommend you keep the oe shocks. If not, then fit whatever shocks are compatible. I will point out that it is NOT necessary to replace the shocks, if you do not want to. Fact is, the average life of a shock is 60-80k (no matter what make or type it is) and ALL shocks wear out. I personally recommend that you replace your shocks with your new lowering springs and also replace the strut top mounts and support plates. If you don't then you will only have problems later down the line so best to change now rather than in a few months or weeks!

used to have koni fsd and eibach springs on mine. ride was terrible so got rid of shocks and fitted standard shocks with ebiach springs. can sort some pics when i return home if you want

If you are going to do it, then do it properly. The Koni fsd + Eibach is supposed to be crap as the Koni fsd shocks are for standard springs.

Any time i've ever put eibach springs on to standard shocks it has always been under-damped and over-sprung. Also considering your shocks will be a bit old by now (volvo aren't the best at shocks) I would change for something half good.

Bilstein B6 if you are staying standard springs, B8 (shortened version of the 6) for the eibachs. You could go coilover, but unless you are spending KW v2 or AST money I wouldn't bother. The BCs have weird american spring rates so budget to change the springs if you go that route.

Budget for a bigger rear arb, redo all the bushes and buy decent tyres.
