Brake Fluid Low - Urgent Service

Got this today when going round a roundabout, so I had a look when I got home and the brake fluid is indeed low. Not sure when it was last changed but I can't help wonder how it got low - leak? Anyway going to get it looked at and the pads.

the master cylinder weeping is very common on P2's, normally drips down the inside of the bulkhead straight into the clutch position sensor knackering up the cruise control

Check the pads. If they're low, that could well be the source of the warning.
The clutch could also be weeping a bit - if your cruise control suddenly stops working, thats a sign. It's nothing to worry about tho.
Check your pads and disks, Change the fluid. go from there.
    Good luck.

Oh good times! Couldn't it just leak somewhere else :p
Just wonder if this needs doing urgently or if it can wait a couple weeks until I go see Hamish.

Like i said, check pads and disks before you panic
Master cylinder leaking isn't a big problem. It won't suddenly dump all the fluid on the road.

Top up and monitor closely. Mine did the same after a few laps at Combe this year. Topped up and it hasn't moved. I suspect it had crept lower with pad/disc wear.

Do not just TOP UP!! Its low for a reason. Those reasons are:

Brake pads low and need replacing
    Leaking.

Thats it. If you just top it up with fluid then your not fixing the problem.
If the pads are low, then as suggested, replace pads/discs and replace the fluid with dot 5.1 fully synthetic. This stuff is not Hygroscopic and has a service life of 10 years!!

(Hygroscopic - meaning, does not absorb moisture)

The message now comes on when I brake. I will get it to the garage as early as possible next week as I don't want to leave it until the 28th.

Took it to the garage and they got it up on a ramp. Looks like there is fluid leaking and that the clutch slave will need changing at some point. I asked them to top up the fluid and I'll see how it goes because the cost is £520. Thoughts?

Wondering how much time I have before it dies.
Anything else worth changing while getting the slave replaced? Car has only done 54k miles.

Like I said, it won't suddenly fail on you. It's a 2005 so most of the other problems associated with P2s shouldn't arise. Having spent £732 on a speedo recently, I'd bung £500 at the clutch/brake system in a heartbeat. If I'm not mistaken, the clutch slave in inside the bell housing on the tranny so it may prove financially prudent to have a new clutch put in while they're there

Yea it's what I'm thinking, it's a big job to change the slave, so may as well change the clutch while I'm there especially as I'm looking to increase power/torque soon. Best to just swap for genuine Volvo parts are there better alternatives for a clutch?

I put a genuine Volvo T5 clutch unit and slave cylinder in mine at approx 150,000 miles. Also did the rear main seal on the crank which is worth it if you are dragging the clutch out.

Can of worms mate! The slave cylinder is internal and to get to it you gotta split the box. May aswell change the clutch and DMF while your there. Total will be between £1600 -1800. If you just replace the slave and 6 months later the clutch goes, then you'll be replacing the slave again! If you don't then your a fool!

With 54k, if it were my car then i would replace Clutch, DMF, slave cylinder. Oh yeah, never replace the clutch without the DMF.

Ouch, wasn't expecting that much of a jump from £500 to fit a clutch and dmf.
