    Kangaroo juice in P2 V70 2.4 140hp

    Chap at work has said car, it is jerky to drive and does f-all to the gallon. Any idea's what's wrong with it?

    First port of call would be clean maf, change air/oil/fuel filters and see what happens.
    is it an early P2 - 1999-2000?

    lol I can't look at one of those speedos without wanting to put a chainsaw through it...

    I drove both a 2.4 140 and 2.4 170 and neither had good fuel economy, the 140 felt like I was rowing against the tide permanantely... however 17.8 is definately wrong.

    As above it needs a service, I would also check the thermostat as a "jammed" thermostat causes appauling MPG. Also the engine warning light may give some indication.

    Engine looks upto temp so I doubt the Tstat, I would get it into an independent volvo guy get the codes read as it obviously has some and while you there and if they can they might be able to upgrade the software to the 170 model which will give it a bit more too.

    MAF and FPS helped a lot on mine when I replaced them.

    I had a 2.4 (170) auto, and averaged around 30mpg, but this was mainly on very good journeys. I think the book fig. was 28mpg for both the 140 and the 170, so 17.8 is way off the mark.
