Engine mounts, giant budgie or something else?

Need some assistance, everytime i come off the throttle i can hear a chirping noise most noticeable in multistory carparks but have heard whilst generally driving round town. The noise isn't really a problem but i can feel what i think is the engine moving when coming on and off the power its been like it for a while now. changed the upper torque bar bush to a powerless one awhile ago. have tried the pushing the engine about but can't get any forwards or backwards movement only side to side. so any idea which one of the engine mounts it would be or is it something else?

    cheers
    Dave

I get a similar noise when I try to accelerate in the wrong gear. I know it's not the top mount or the front lower mount and it sounds, to me, like it's coming from the aux belt.

Gonna watch this thread with bated breath...

    ,.,

could be a pipe split from the turbo,or wastegate actuator holding waste gate open so boost is a bit poor and the turbo makes a lot more noise, like a budgie or like the old school rally cars you used to see on tv (if your old enough to remember lol)
you could check there isnt any split pipes first.

Is this chirping noise sort - of in time with the engine? if so I'm leaning towards the aux belt and pulleys. Gonna get some belt dressing on the belt later and see if that changes anything. Will keep ya posted.
Have a look at the lower torque mount, I had a "engine shift" feeling and it turned - out to be that...

Just had a look at the lower torque mount can't see any thing wrong with it although by look i mean kneeling down at the front of the car and leaning under as im at work and its been raining all morning so im not gonna get under it lol. felt round the bushes from above all seemed ok.

When you mean in time with the engine Martin im not entirely sure what you mean. if im driving along and take my foot off the throttle a second or two later it will 'chirp' once and when i go back on the throttle it 'chirp' again, never does it any other time.

Hmmm, when I pull away with not enough throttle, I get the usual drrrrrrrrrr before it picks up. During the drrrrrrr there's a chirp noise that seems to oscillate with it I also get it when I change gear and bang the clutch up too hard. The big rear torque mount (looks like a big rubber doughnut) may be worth a look. I'm gonna dress the aux belt and see if that changes anything.
Out of interest, is your top engine mount the type that is attached to the bulkhead or is it the one (like mine) that is slung from the strut brace thingy?

    Martin - Dave's C70 will be same as Betsy's.

Dave - what kind of top mount are you running - circular or cruciform?

AAh, I was thinking it might be the bushes on the strut towers.

On the 1999 - they were shipped with the old 850 style round mounts, which have a tendancy to split.

Dave - you should check the integrity & upgrade.

Entirely upto you - you can either polybush it - which is much noisier (depends on taste) or use the newer Volvo OEM mount highligheted below.

This comprises of a cruciform block of hard rubber - so it works in compression, rather than tension, as is the case with the older mount (which is why it tears).

I've already change the top mount to a powerflex one was originally a cruiform type. I've been trying to push the engine about to try and get it to make the noise but nothing and I've been really swinging off it. no movement at all front to back but i can move it about side to side don't know if this is normally.

Does the noise occur on or off boost/ all the time. Does it matter what gear you are in? Does it occur when the clutch is out/in - or does it not matter.

Could be your ARB bushes? Might be worth a squirt of WD40?

When was the last time you changed your ARB droplinks?

Can mostly hear it at low speed or lows revs after that all you can hear is induction noise lol. doesn't seem to matter what gear im in. Doesn't do it when using the clutch.
haven't checked the droplinks and i haven't changed them since I've owned it and got no real history with the car
