The Radtech intercooler is now bolted in and on early impressions the engine feels that little more responsive to what it did previously. After a thoroughly enjoyable 500mile round trip from Suffolk to see family back in Wales, I did however manage to crack the exhaust manifold so that'll be welded up again for a quick fix in a few weeks time ready for the T5D5 track day at Castle Combe in July.

Once that is over it will have an ME7 manifold and of course the next stage of mods will also get under way which will include a different oil cooler, oil cooler pipes, sump, M66 gearbox, clutch, Gripper diff, decat, stronger actuator spring and a few tweaks to the map to hopefully sort out all the weaknesses in the current setup and bring it closer to 500bhp

Always loved this car mate, keep up the good work. 500bhp, are you trying to catch up with Russ's yellow peril

LOL Not at all, as said its to remove the weaknesses from the car. For example, it looses 6psi from full boost at 3500rpm to 7500rpm, with a stronger actuator spring I'm hoping to be able to hold at least 24psi up to at least 6500rpm, giving more power at the top end.

Another weakness is exiting slow speed or 2nd gear corners, at the moment it just spins the inside wheel hence the move to a gripper instead and while the gearbox is out, it might as well have an extra gear

I'm surprised you're running an open Diff at 450 - surely that's like doing a 2 week hiking trek in India with no extra supplies of bog roll ?

is a gripper better than a quaife for track and 1/4 mile work ?

cool do you run boost in 1st? Mine doesn't run any boost in 1st so I can pretty much floor it as long as I get a decent hook up.

the change on mine is pretty slow - think it's the DMF flywheel, a single mass 6kg would probably make quite a difference on the 1/4 if each change was 0.2 of a second faster.

In Chris's car with iirc 330bhp the Quaife works flawlessly and is of course completely silent. Unfortunately, in mine it is being over powered by the torque, so a noisy Gripper is the only option.

For daily road use with a few track days thrown in at normal 19T power levels I still think the Quaife is the better option.

been reading this thread with great interest..
the only thing is.....do the grippers not have an unreliabilty issue???

starting to think the quaife, might not be working aswell these days, now i have another 50hp and 356lbs,seems to struggle a bit.............?

Thats an interesting point, so, I might have made the right choice by fitting a Gripper to mine.

Can comment about the reliability of using it, but I've had some trouble with mine before I've even driven it!

If you use anything but road legal track day tyres (and remember they need to be warm to grip properly) then you might struggle. Also of note, it depends what your torque curve is like. If like mine it shoots up, again it will struggle, but if its mapped to have more of a smoother torque curve you'll be less likely to spin wheels. Remember its not the peak numbers that are important, its the delivery of that torque.
