A few pics of parts for my build!

Old Engine now removed and found it was the the rare B4194T2 which is the strongest block of the T4's.

Will be putting in the forged lump next week. Lucky I have a mate who has workshop fully equipped!! Getting a turbo flange laser cut for next week.

    850r Clutch
    Inlet manifold
    Holset HE221W
    850 T5 SMF
Adapted ME7 manifold (1 cylinder chopped and welded. Lip also removed from flange)
    Old engine on the trolley.

Had a few quotes for a full 3 inch stainless system with 200cell cat, large silencer and lambda bungs. Best so far is 720. I have a powerflow dealer just down the road but haven't considered them yet as people tell me powerflow are ****e. What do you guys think?

    Thanks, Mitch.

    Some more.

Pic 1 - Big hole in my engine bay!

2 - Old engine on trolley new engine waiting for ancillaries.

3 - The beast will stay looking as standard as possible. Probably just coilovers and brake upgrade.

4 -Series 1 RST resto ans RS Cosworth with GT35.

5 -New fuel pump for the T4.

My friend is going to add a return to the fuel system as the T4's standard system loses pressure above 300bhp.

I have also got a big custom drop in alloy IC from Ashok and Siemens Deka injectors.

Sorry for the lack of updates so far, been so busy!!

    Thanks, Mitch.

their a franchise so the quality of work varies between branches, i'd ask to see some work they've previously done. My local branch are brilliant, the welding doesn't look pretty but its sealed & their prepared to help & do anything i've wanted

Ok thanks. I'll give them a try. It would be easier for me as they are closer and i'll have to trailer the car.

Thanks mate. It's beginning to come together but the hard part is still to come! Getting it to run properly! Standalones, piggybacks, remap bla bla bla it's very expensive and boring lol. I'll see how it runs on standard management first before I make a decision. May even choose another turbo yet, I want to see how this one drives first. Meant to spool very low down which is what I want, but I also want a good top end, so jury's still out!!

The s40 has weak drive shafts. Not to meant that they break but the 3 round bearings inside it's housing do cause vibrations when they wear out.
Are you looking into this department ?

Wink your volvo custom build & remapping

    Hi there,
i have an s40 t5 geartronic & have done loads of stuff to it, new hybrid turbo / bigger injectors / uprated fuel pump / bigger intercooler / massive cci air intake system / full stainless exhaust / sports cat / the list goes on & i still aint finished,
in response to the statement that you make about HML well what can i say, i also spoke to Hamish regarding a remap on my car and what power etc i was looking for and my reply was "its impossible you could never get that from your car put it back to standard" well MR HAMISH my car is now 354bhp & 418lb torque through the front end...so i now beg to differ!!!!
(remapped professionaly by a very clever man who wrote the map himself & it was his first volvo too)
i would say that hamish thinks he knows everything about volvos but obviously not!!!
my next upgrade is engine internals, a tweet on the remap & then looking for 450bhp & 500+ torque...
p.s will be showing my car next year if anyone fancys having a look, that includes you hamish !!!!

I'd be very surprised if an auto box could take 418lb/ft for very long, let alone 500.
Bring it along to one of the 1/4mile events we go to next year, so we can see it in action.

If your box is still working.

thanks for reply, i know what you are saying but i have had the gearbox checked out and have had additional software & oilcoolers installed...also my local transmission company have said that it should be good for well in excess of 500lb torque..
will be glad to come to any meets next year...my visions should be nearing its end by then. (money permitting)

Good luck with that, when i had an auto t4 i was told (by an auto specialist) that most autos that are fitted into fwds will start to struggle when you start going past 350lb/ft (and some will give up long before then too).

I know that when having supercharge conversions done to e39 540 autos and running at anything over stage 1 (around 390bhp), they recommend uprated torque converters. Given that the autos in rwds tend to be stronger than fwds, i'm very surprised that an auto in a fwd could take those kind of of numbers even with an uprated cooler.

I guess you'll find out as time goes on.

You're a brave man running that much on the ST/S40 open deck block Don reckon you needs shorter rods to run a lower Compression ration over 300bhp.

Your car sounds awesome mind you... got any more details and pics ?!

350 is considered to be the absolute maximum the block can take, and there's many people on the Focus ST owners club who've blown blocks going over 300.

Who did the mods and remap? I may be interested in speaking to them...

Well you've managed to do something that i never managed, thats find someone prepared to work on uprating an auto box on a volvo. Oil coolers, no problem, but making the box stronger, well i couldn't find anyone interested in it.

You should start your own projects section as i'm sure lots of us are interested in it, i'm very interested in who supplied/fitted the uprated torque converter to your t5 and besides we're kinda taking over mitchboys thread. lol
