V70R - Arrives at new home

Well, I've done the deed, the Scottish V70R with the orange interior is now mine and parked up in Lancashire, currently trying to swap it's kilt for a flat cap.

Thanks for all the warnings / info on the car guys. Gave it a serious check out and it would seem to have been sorted out at some point. Nothing is leaking out of it, it goes in a straight line, it stops in a straight line and generally behaves symetrically when chucked into a corner.

Not really done anything too exciting with it yet, want to get the fluids changed first as I've no idea what oil is in it, or what state the coolant is in etc. That said, there was one short "speed run" whilst there was no one about on the way home, just to check it was stable at speed.

There is some wheel wobble at certain speeds, which made me wonder if it had chucked a balance weight off at some point. So I looked for the weights. Then I looked again, much more closely. There aren't any. Wheels going off to be balanced at the weekend!

So far, very happy with it. Only annoyance so far is that the door mirrors are quite badly scratched. You get the "starburst filter" effect at night with anyone's headlights behind you.

Sooooo nice to be sat in one of these again.

I'll get a photo or two up at the weekend.

It's a black V70R that was for sale north of the border. I was asking about what stuff to check out on here last week.

The mirrors are easily scratch because they appear to be of a plastic compound if i remember.
Dont believe everything you read about the car because it will have been fixed long ago.
    Arnies are different though.

Very jealous! I have thought long and hard about my next car and the requirements are:

    1. Big estate - no compromise on this, so it's a V70, E class wagon or Audi A6
    2. Four wheel drive - fed up with T5 wheel spin
    3. Manual gearbox
    4. Would quite like seven seats
    5. Comfort - had a ride in a French A6 on holiday and yes, it had hard seats.
    6. Reliability - Previous gen Mercs were woeful when the accountants ran the factory. I can personally vouch for my 165,000 10 year old T5.

So - angle gears aside, it had to be a manual V70R with the seven seat option for the odd country pub run with the in laws.

Hopefully my business will be fit enough to let me buy one early next year.

I even toyed with importing a 2.0 turbo Jap spec Legacy wagon, but the interior and comfort isn't that great, I don't own a baseball cap and the fuel economy makes a T5 look frugal...
