    Engine compatibility

Is it possible to put a later 2.4 T5 engine into an earlier 2.3? I understand that the ECU etc is completely different, but would this affect the bare engine?

People put 2.4 T5's into S60R's so I assume it could be possible?

It is possible, but you will need to swap over all the engines ecu's, wiring harness complete etc etc. it's a big job. Just putting a 2.4 lump into the hole where an older 2.3 T5 used to be wont work. The old 2.3 T5 is motronic 4.3 and the later 2.4 T5 is motronic ME7.01. Therefore ecu's won't be compatible. The 2.4 T5 is 260 bhp where as the 2.5 R is 300 bhp but uses the same system as a 2.4. Later engines have VVT but not the earlier T5 engines.

    Question

Surley if you mate the original intake manifold and exhaust manifold upto the engine and throttle body etc etc it should work?

We are talking a bare engine? obviously if its vvt then it will not work.
