I'd like to make my exhaust sound deeper and throatier. Sadly, I cannot afford a stainless system at the moment.
As cash is limited, I am wondering if it possible to achieve this by modifying the standard setup at all?
Any ideas?

I fitted a saloon exhaust to my estate so it should work the other way around. Be prepared to do a bit of modifying though, it was a bit too short for my car so you may find it'll be a tad too long( by around an inch or two)

On turbocharged cars, having less backpressure is not an issue unlike on an N/A car where it needs it...Originally Posted by MattB
Cutting out the box and replacing it with straight pipes will definately make your car louder I wish it were legal to do that here in the states.

I think this will be too loud!Originally Posted by '95R

So...
I am temted to cut out and replace with a smaller box - perhaps pick one up from the local scrapyard. Any ideas as to which one may be a suitable replacement?Originally Posted by '95R

I would recommend an aftermarket box or something, because reducing the size of it will also limit the flow (depending on the design) where as an aftermarket style will allow the same amount if not more exhaust to pass through allowing more power with a slightly louder exhaust note.Originally Posted by MattB

Powerflow fitted there meduim size silencer instead of the suitcase on mine & that is reasonably loud, think straight thru would be just silly (go for it )
Sure thing, I would't consider a straight thru as indeed it would be too loud. How much was the powerflow box for yours pedro?Originally Posted by Pedro Fandango
I assume that its sounds better, without being deafening on motorway trips etc?
