its abit strange really...you buy these cars at about 240/250 manufacturers stats (yes they are old now most of them!) you put your 'chip' 'rica 304' or whatever you want to call them....you then are probably at about 260/270 mark...then spend thousands probably to get to 300ish.....hmmmmm maybe this is the case with most older cars??

Pete...whne you have stuff like 18/19T on the car...does a 304 give 'full potential' or maybe a re-map specifically for your configuration would yield best results?

I doubt very much a 304 will give the 18t its potensional performance but surley i should be getting a better figure than that.

I guess you have done the stage 0 stuff, have no air leaks in the vac pipes and that kind of stuff?
I think the rica 304 will be good upto 16T, but my knowledge is pretty limited......

just going from articles read on the forums to be honest....

There is something wrong with your car if you are only achieving those figures,
Before i started modding my V70R, it was modded by a previous owner at 268whp 19t custom Rica down pipe and exhuast.

You need less mods than you think to get close too 300bhp, i had 16t, me7 mani refurbed orange injectors, decat and miltec back and i got 287 @ crank and 456nm,1.2bar with a custom map which im sure Hamish will copy for you for a small fee , there is a graph of it in my project thread just dont know how to copy it to here.

Thats the thing gary i cannot find a single fault with the car ive been on with it trying to get better power since first having the 304 with the 15g in which it only made 224 at the crank and that must be 3 yrs ago now every thing has been replaced and its now at 243whp.

850 T-5's come with 225bhp. I'm sure FFM won't might be admitting his old car was done on a budget & got 291bhp LINK

One of the best ways for increasing the power output of these engines is head work. Having the head ported and polished properly does work very well and you should be able to get a good target figure with one of the smaller compressors in the Td04 range such as the 16t.

An 850 T5 (225 or so it says) produces 98 bhp per litre of engine capacity.

An 850 R manual (250 lol) produces about 108 bhp per litre.

300 bhp requires 130 bhp per litre.

Honda S2000 (2 litre) produces 120 bhp per litre and M3 (4 litre) about 104 bhp.

Therefore, 130 bhp per litre is going some. Our engines are tiny compared to those in other 'big' cars like M3 and various AMG estates, so do very well in a way. But the bottom line is, you can't beat cubic capacity...this gives the basis for torque - which is often overlooked when remaps are talked about - the Rica map impacts more on torque than on outright BHP - and tihs makes it great.
On the front wheel drive issues, one of the higher powered 850s that has not been seen for a while on here, is Russ Thompson's Yellow Peril ... certainly well over 500 bhp. But I have yet to see it produce particularly impressive 1/4 miles. I think there is only so much power that a FWD car will ever successfully lay down.

But if you have a goal - go for it!
    KISS Rs

850R manual, Rica 310, IKEA fitted bathroom, H&C running water, Jetex 2.5", pipe rack, cap stand, Forge BOV, circular wheels with full 360 degree rotation, 302mm discs, IPD front and rear anti-roll bars, numerous shiny features, sub-atomic particle accelerator, VTOL capability ...Volvo With Attitude!!!
Also to be seen in a gold Honda CR-V these days...

"It's really fast, and growls like a tiger!"
