Angry T5 won't tick over, any ideas?

    Hi all
have a 95 850 T5 Auto that refuses to tick over anymore, went to essex meet and was advised to clean idle control valve which i did, ticked over lovely for a day. have made a crude code reader and it says 1 2 1 mass air flow sensor, changed this for 1 from a running t5, no change (other t5 ticked over ok with my one fitted) have cleaned throttle butterfly, changed cap and rotor arm and fuel filter. Where should i go next. Any ideas will be appreciated.
Almost forgot, my idle control valve now hums could this be the problem or do they all hum (other t5 owner was reluctant for me to try his valve on mine in case i broke it)
    thanks in anticipation
    T5 steve

    Wink

Mine hum's think it's usuallly just when i've switch it off tho.

Check the Elbow on the end intake manifold, next to the pas pump.

Also Check the Main pipe which comes off the top of the vac tree and conects onto the idle control valve.

Next could be the Throttle position sensor under the idle control valve, it's small black held on with two small screws and has a multi plug connector going to it.

If the codes are saying the air flow meter and you swopped it with a known working one (and your old one worked on the other car) id check the multi plug pin's to see if they are damaged or corroded and check the wiring as far back from the plug as you can. the 480 turbos are bad for the wires splitting just after the plug at least on mine anyway.

have changed icv, throttle pos sensor, had wiring checked from maf sensor, sprayed everywhere with easy start while running, geuss what.................no different.......ticks over for about 5 secs then cuts out.
think i'll have to admit defeat and take it to a specialist, bet this is going to hurt.
once again thanks for all your help, will keep you all informed.

What Phil said is right, the pump is only priming the rail then you run out of fuel.

bit the bullet today and took car to local volvo dealer to have a diagnostic check, geuss what, their machine CAN'T READ a 95 VOLVO, but they can call a local mobile mechanic who can. where's the logic in that.

    Talking

If she's not ticking over sounds like a air leak, Possible around the turbo pipes from throttle body?

Still you are coming to the meet, if i remeber i will bring some fairy liquid and carb cleaner.

thanks again, have booked a mobile code reading service for monday, will keep you all informed. sorry won't be able to make meet as i will be in leicester for a conference.
have sprayed easy start everywhere but didn't make any difference but at least i have a clean engine now. forgot to mention car runs fine other than not ticking over, although i took it out for a good thrashing today and it has started to tick over a bit more than it did ????? maybe i'll just thrash it everywhere.

went to local dealers again for diagnostic check, £114 later they came back with faulty coil and faulty fuel pump ( they offered to replace both for £1100, geuss my reply)
have since replaced both and it has got a lot better but still cuts out now and then.
slowly losing the will to live.
