    induction kit

Just fitted a conical air filter to my V70 2.5t, wanted to make a bit more noise. It's worked, but when I lift off, I can hear a sort of echoing breathing noise, not unlike DarthVadar. Is this right? Never had one of these before, so all a bit new. Has made my engine run a bit smoother, probably because my K&N panel was mucked up to the hilt!

sounds like it could be the recirc valve letting off the excess boost, if so then yes its fine

the noise is the recirc dumping air into the intake system it is normal.now if i was you i would get the car a remap off hlm bromsgrove and put a manual boost controller on if the map isnt agressive enough for you and turn the boost up to 14 psi max the car will fly.i had the same car and did a 16.2 on the drag strip and with just a remap pulled a 15.2 and i had only just started to learn drag racing then.i recon if i would of turned the boost up abit more i would of pulled a 14 .6 easy.the car was also better on fuel after the remap and dam quick hope this helps.

Ah. If it's he re-circ, then I have a wee problem. I fitted a dump valve and put a one way valve into the re-circ vacuum line. The noise only appears when the engine revs to about 2000rpm and I lift off. When I do the same at 3500, the dump valve works. However, I have noticed the dump valve seems a little weak and just put this down to low boost pressure. I'll go and have a root around and see if things are still plumbed in properly.
Smithy, 15% more power and 30% more torque sounds good to me! But could I just put a Manual boost controller in and simply turn it up? I don't think my engine is the strongest, and need it to be reliable, but my bro has got a little fiat coupe, but despite being a hairdressers car, it's pulling 350bhp on the dyno and is ££££in' rapid and I wouldn't mind at least keeping up with him!

remap, boost gauge ,mbc ,14psi,take dump valve off and reconnect recirc.and because ur car uses a small turbo the spool up is very fast and it gives alot of people alot of shocks lol i think the remaps 150 pounds too but ring hlm to confirm

So, what your hearing is turbo flutter, which you get when you have no recirc. that noise is quite normal

Deffo re-circ operating. I've swapped the plumbing around and that confirmed it. Cheers guys!
Now the burning question. Do I prefer the ghostly whoosh that it now seems to make to the psst of the dump valve...? Think I may just take the DV out!
Cheers for the advice Smithy, think Bromsgrove is a little out of my way, but I see FG Automotive are RICA dealers in my area. Anybody had any dealings with this company?

Hah... Cool. Mail order re-mapping! What a great ide. Does he not have one to send out to simply swap over and return post the old one? Anyway, I'll try and give him a bell. Sounds just what the wonder wardrobe on wheels needs!

its wastegate chatter and you can have that with a dump valve, low boost to get the wastegate noise high boost to get the dump valve working

Cheers, t5frankie. Kinda makes sense. Must work on improving the boost pressure!

Right. You've got me interested now, but there are a couple of things I'm unsure of. I know that all the answers are kicking around on the forum and that I should search, and that I have done. Perhaps I'm not using the right phrasing or something?
Anyway. MBC? I take it this is some kind of restriction valve that goes into the vacuum lines? Is there a make that is better than others? Where would one fit it? The first refrence was on a MIT****SHI owners club. They were talking about spikes and tapers and 2bar etc... SO this then got me to thinking about boost gauges. Bro's little fiat came with one fitted by the factory (bloody nice chaps, them Italians!) but obviously the volvo chaps all sat around with funny moustache smoking pipes and never thought we'd wanna play? Where have you fitted yours and was it simple/easy/did you have to cut loads of holes? I remember seeing A-pillar mounting pods back in the days of "fast car". Did they die the death like said mag?
Are there any "good" or "bad" MBC/boost gauges/mounting places?
Sorry about all the questions, but you've really whet my appetite!

    Cheers, Dave

Hang on a minute, what year is your car? is it me7 or pre-me7? if it's me7 then you can't use a dump valve or MBC

You can get pillar mounts, pod mounts, or you can fit a gauge in one of the air vents.

My black 850 has a huge cone air filter and sounds like Darth Vader heavy breathing on a sex chat line!

Sounds way better than a dump valve.
