    T4 Gearbox M56?

Do the early 1855cc T4 engines have the M56 gearbox like the T5's? Also are they dual mass flywheel? Eventually want to fit an 850R clutch to the T4 so researching whether I would need to do a single mass flywheel conversion on it if it is indeed an M56.

    Thanks,

    Mitch.

The gearbox's are different, but the 850r clutch will fit, the T4's come with a DMF.

And how is it and what was the cost for the Sm Fly and clutch? Trying to get base prices for future mods

    Hi mate,

Feels like any other stock clutch on a T4 or T5.

SMF cost 15 from a breaker. Any 850 SMF will do doesn't have to be a T5 as they are all the same. 850R clutch, pressure plate and release bearing came to £200. New clutch and flywheel bolts were around £20. So around £250 all in for parts.

My old DMF felt fine to drive but on inspection it was falling to bits so quite lucky we had the car apart anyway to change the engine. Definitely a more reliable setup, and cheaper to replace if it does go wrong. Plus 850R clutch can do 380lb/ft and 400bhp so one less worry when tuning too.

Hate to bring old posts from the depth of the forum, but my question is very related to what been said here and does not approve oppening a new thread so...
Sorry mods please dont be angry at me!

So basically T5 and T4 clutch and flywheel systems are all interchangeable, so SMF from an 850 will fit the T4 but -heres the big but- will a T5 DMF fit a T4 with genuine LuK clutch (272314)?
Flywheel has failed recently, ended in 2 broken engine mounts and left (shorter) axle snapping in half. dont ask me how! Me-><-Volvo
Happened under heavy load, so no surprise there. Some dude with a mondeo V6 was acting up... that should answer the why.
    Thank you guys!

yes the T5 DMF is the same as the T4 DMF in size etc

I have placed both next to each other and measured everything and they exactly the same, even the M66 version T5
