Got an old discovery now.
It would be a lot easier and cheaper to have them re-done the way you have them now and it would look really great because it was all fresh paint but to go back to standard would take more time and effort..
I had this dilemma when I did mine and ended up staying with standard.. even door handles, mudflaps, trim and rear door stickers all had to be the same colour..
It's also harder to look after (I think) as you have to treat it rather than just polishing and waxing the whole bumper when completely painted. Plus, you have to choose how textured you want it and what sort of colour/shade to have..
If it was me and my car I would go with what I have now on my car.. lol
Hope ya well,
Scott..
Pictures done for comparision thanks to Martin.
I have to say I've put alot of thought into how I am going to do this, you'd have thought it was a life or death situation lol, and I think I am going to stay colour coded... but anyway here are the shots.

I think you made the right choice Andy. While I was tinkering with the pics, I couldn't stop thinking about how dam good the R looks with the colour coding, maybe a red one would look good with standard trim but the gunmetal? noooo! If it aint broke, don't fix it.
P.S. don't know how the edited pics ended up lighter than the originals. Weird!?

lol, glad you enjoyed doing it.
Not sure myself and tbh hadn't even noticed until you mentioned it. Perhaps it happened when I uploaded them to PB, it can mess with the photos and I think due to the file size of the images it will probably have done something to them to reduce the file size during upload.
I did notice that when you flick between the pics using the arrow buttons on the keyboard, the only thing that changes is the bits I altered.
Thanks for the challenge! I restore old photos now and again, so this was a nice change.

Car's now at the bodyshop and the bumper tops are definately staying grey. I shall update once it's done...
So after umming and ahhing the deed is done...
I stayed colour coded and I have to say the results are, for me anyway, most impressive. It looks even better than it did the day I got it thanks to what originally was a cheap quick job and a bit of a nasty repair to the o/s/f corner of the front splitter. Despite spending longer due to a few nasties the bodyshop found they kept to the agreed price and I must say the job is better than I expected it.
So no more scuffed mirror caps..
No more cracked and chipped front bumper/spoiler.
No more cracked rear bumper or keyed and scuffed spoiler tip..
So overall I now have...
After waiting so long to do it looking at it now I wonder why I left it so long... Oh that's right because I am now paranoid about stone chips.... lol
Mate, I'm so glad you stayed coded, looks stunning now. If you're worried about stone chips, you can cut clear sticky backed plastic into strips and apply to the most vulnerable bits. peel it off when it's knackered.
Spot on job.

I actualy looked into taking on a chips away franchise but there was too much competition from other franchisees in my area, no point bothering with someone doing the same thing ten miles up the road.

Cheers Martin, and thanks again for your help with Photoshop. I did think about putting some of the 3m clear plastic stone chip guard but im not a fan of how it looks so im going to have to put up with the chips.. lol
Lol, thanks Gaz, it's certainly getting better, I need to clay, polish and seal it now ready for the winter...
Thanks for your comments Paul, as said it needs claying and detailing now, the above was the result of a quickish wash but as you say it still has a decent shine none the less
I've done a couple of things to it since I bought it. I bought it as a standard car back in Nov' '07 and since then it's been a gradual project. Most major modifications are a turbo tuner with M.A developments custom map, JT full 3" system, Turbotechnics hybrid 15G and S60R green injectors. Performance wise I am quite happy with it so I am now concentrating on the fine details and appearance.
Cheers TC, I doubt yours looks that bad and lets face it you can paint the nasty bits yourself to get it looking good. One thing you do need for yours is one of your own lower splitters and also I read a thread that your thinking of adding an R saloon style flick to the rear spoiler of the estates? This again is something you need to do for yours...
Yeah they are good, but in my experience not bodyshop quality and certainly don't last as the repairs seem to deteriorate, that said you can never argue at the cost..
