    Oh......

Well I thought I'd see what people say about this:

The first run with no upgrades shows 173BHP @ 6400rpm
    No torque figures taken

The next run with Rica Ecu and ITG panel filter and Hybrid Turbo Technics Turbo shows
    195BHP @ 4701
    219Lbs/ft @4701

The last run with my new software and ITG panel filter and Hybrid Turbo shows
    195 BHP @4495
    248Lbs/ft @4495

seems I gained some Torque and lost no BHP.

The car is an 850 T5R auto with 113k miles. Running 1.1Bar of boost.

    see http://community.webshots.com/user/adieu100 for the graphs

Sounds like the boost is a smidge low but then again you have a different tub on it.
Mine is standard and was at time of testing running 1.3 giving amazing results!!

    Your software???...do tell???

I have looked at the charts, and from a purely technical point of view the new power and torque curve is worse. You have 60 lb ft less torque from 1000 to 2500 rpm, and 10 lb.ft less above 4500 rpm. In fact, your power and torque is worse everywhere, except between 3000 and 4500 rpm where it's better.

    But

I have driven the car with both pieces of software and have to say that even though the graph shows less torque and power in places the drivablity of the car has improved...i.e over taking is so easy now....(more torque in the mid range) the car is not a Civic Type R after all so why Rev it to death to get the best results.

Yes, if you spend most of the time between 3000 and 4500 rpm, then it will be better. The graph clearly shows that. As you say, you are happy. That's all that counts at the end of the day.

    Hmmmm

Most of us drive between 3000 and 4500 rpm don't we?

    Iain,

I'm not having a go. Seriously, as long as your happy that's all that counts. Yours is an auto so you will definately spend more time in that rpm than a manual car will.

    Oh well

I feel I must reply again sorry Adam....

But when under normal driving most people would not exceed 4000-5000rpm even in a manual.

Take the example of the Sunday driver..... pottering along at 40-50 in a 60 limit..... you find yourself behind him..... what do you do.....Well i know I would wait for the road ahead to to clear and SAFE to overtake...then kick down...oh look i'm at around 3250rpm in 3rd....and I have the torque and power to overtake him SAFELY! Same goes for a manual car....maybe 5th to 4th though....no one wants to have to drop to 2nd then nail it hard for 2 secs hitting the redline....or do they?

Maybe another post to see how people drive would be good for a laugh....

The change in car response is very hard to quantify and put into figures - best way to show the difference is seat of your pants dyno, perhaps at a future meet ?

Both pieces of software give good power, just the maps respond differently.

Not trying to take sides but if you as a whole have lost power in most of the rev range you will ultimately end up with a slower car, it may be more flexible in that rev range albeit a small section of the rev range so it sounds like you have ended up with a diesel style power delivery, not a bad thing if thats how you drive but ultimately slower.

    k

maybe you should attend one of the meets from the VOC and drive my car...you find in neither SLOW or like a diesel...you will find it FAST and fun to drive without having to REV IT TO DEATH to get any sort of power.

I was only saying from what it sounds like from the graph.

Im not disputing whether its fast or not but taking power and putting it in a short rev range will have an effect on performance regardless of how much is their it will always be limited as it will be over too quick and require a gearchange.

There are no sides here, we are all playing with our Volvos and sharing experiences.

With a bit of custom mapping, I think that the power can be increased more - I used to do my own mapping on a normally aspirated car. Getting power is quite easy, but the reponse is effected (on a N/A car) but I don't know how response is controlled on a turbo car.

I hold my hands up, i'm ones of those people who would drop it to 2nd and floor it!! But only to 6k rpm, never into the redline i must say!! but i guess that's down to the 19T putting a big smile on my face!! (boyracer may come to a few minds) thats my input

because of how high i've got the boost set on the MBC to much load on the engine cuts in the boost limit (it worries people who have never driven her before & hit the limit lol). So if i'm overtaking (or just proving a point to chavs) i'll drop it down a gear or 2 & use the higher end of the revs
