I have just purchased a mint set of Porsche calibers including new discs. But i Can see, that they are often sold with the steel braided hoses - but is it really nEsessary, ie is the original hoses long enough??

depends who you speak to. I was using my original hoses and they were long enough. i would of swapped for some steel ones if i could but mine were seized on at the car end lol.
you'll get way better feel with braided hoses ... but just make sure your rear ones are braided too
