Unhappy over heating, over preasuerising rad hoses thermostat?

    Please help.

My 1995 855 t5r (bruised banana) still got black hood

I have developed a very unfortunate water problem, at first header tank water was eveaperating, (cracked cap, so i changed it). I am sure that up to today there is no water leaks or contamination in either engine or header tank fluids. now i know that due to expansion that a rad hose will become harder however, my one is way to hard. this i can only put down to build up of preasure.

One remedy to try 1st was to remove thermostat and eliminate possible fault, however due to corrosion on star drive screw i cannot remove housing, i tried some shock theropay but still wont move, now rounded off. i managed to loosen 1st bolt but upon trying to move 2nd bolt i noticed water pi:><{Ng out from what i can only hope is a displaced gasket on thermostat housing.
I also susspect that the fan switch is faulty as fan does not work, i suspect this is because of switch under thermo housing.

im of on 900+mile round trip Southend to cornwal on saturday so any good advice would be very appreaciated.

    Thanks Matt

Hi Matt, been absolutely ages since I have seen you driving around in your T-5R estate. Did you hear Simon had sold his red 855 R?

Sorry to hear about your problems, can you not drill the other screw out?

    Thumbs up Rounded off

Get a Larger torx And hammer it into the rounded off bolt, then undo it. It's gotta come out either way really. Take the sheild off the injection rail as this will give you a little more room. (just a suggestion)
    Hope you get it sorted.

Yeah that's right I still do keep in touch with him. When you suss the problem on the yellow out perhaps we can organise a get together again...

Fingers crossed it's not the head gasket, although I would have expected to see the cap blowing the pressure if it was excessive. Is it actually overheating then?

There is definately going to be a meet in August the location hasn't been confirmed yet but it's likely to be the Dick Turpin.

I had similar problems with mine, over pressurised system, cracked cap and tank. I changed the thermostat too. But in the end it was the head gasket.

Get a compression test done, a test on mine showed that the middle cylinder was leaking

With regards the thermostat housing, I had the same problem, and in the end I had to drill the head off the bolt and use some grips to remove the rest of the bolt. Then I got a couple of new bolts from Rufe for a couple of quid.

A head gasket is a huge job mate, even if you do the work yourself it is so time comsuming for the amature mechanic,

Your best bet is to put the other bolt back in and get it into a garage so they can get the stat housing off.
