    Manifold??

Hi folks. Getting what sounds like a manifold blow when I start up in the morning.....sort of chirriping sound. It only seems to be there on tickover and gets worse if you turn the steering wheel. I'm assuming that's becuase the engine load increases.
After driving quite a short distance, probably only 200 yards or so, it disappears.
A friend who runs a garage reckoned it might be a crack in the exhaust manifold, although he hasn't actually heard it yet.
Is it likely to be that, and if so, how easy is it to change?

    Moby.

You can give your manifold a good visual inspection whilst fitted by removing the heat shield then use a torch and mirror to check it over. Have you checked to see you have no boost leaks evident?

I must admit, I haven't had a chance to have a good look yet.
Wondered if it was a boost leak, but would that only be noticeable at tickover and only until the enigine warms up a bit?

Sorry mate, what's p.s. If you mean boost pressure, it gets up to around 12psi when flooring the throttle.

An update to this odd noise.
It's not the manifold but it's coming from somewhere around the belt that drives the power steering pump and the aircon pump.
I realised this because when I start in the morning, I get the noise if either I turn the steering wheel, or turn the aircon on.
