    TFM's 850 R Replica Project

Honestly you would not believe how good it feels to get a spanner in hand after spending four months hitting Landrover starter motors with 4lb sledge hammers! So much so today I went to collect my newly Purchased Volans... not far from my work residence address only 10 miles but I travelled from Lincoln and it was roughly a 90 mile trip.

I was driving pretty steady and was astounded to find after 30 odd miles into the Journey the odometer was reading a massive 40.9 mpg average. I very much put this down to my driving style and the updated 2011 Rica map proivded by Adam.

Anyhow I got back and decided it was time to fit the 302mm conversion onto the old bus from the T5-R. I never fitted the original conversion onto the T5-R and was astounded to see the size difference when the discs were put together. The 302mm discs had a fair amount of surface corrosion from 6 months in the garage so a rub down with emery paper soon sorted that out.

Here are a few comparrison shots.

I also got sick of the drone from the custom stainless exhuast I had installed so had a second silencer installed at the rear of the car. Its much quieter in the low revs and when your light footed but bizarely the rev range for the "droning effect" has just gotten higher? Its moved from droning at 1.5-2.5k to 2-3k.

Volans and 302's fitted, now just the head to re-build 19T to fit and greens with custom map and away we go!

She's starting to look like an R replica... picking up a dark R interior tomorrow too

Nice.....always like the grey one's. Have you not thought it could be a loose baffle in the original silencer?, sounds like it could be if the drone is still there.

Cars looking great Emlyn, Brakes are quite a bit bigger when compared side by side as you've done. Hopefully see it in the flesh on Sunday.

Cheers TC, definately my favourite colour. Well the car had the exhaust fitted brand new in February just before I went to the Falklands and its done around 2-300 miles since. So Im pretty doubtful the baffle is loose but it may have been faulty from the start. It has been de-catted too and I think the larger 2.5 inch pipe rather than stcok 2.25 makes a difference too.

Thanks Andy, I really didnt think the brakes were that much bigger until side by side as whats 22mm? The picture where they overlap is one directly ontop of the centre of the other.

Hopefully I will have my finger out and have washed it by then! Volans a little tatty and need a refurb but thats low on the priorities at the moment.

Out of interest can you tell its been lowered? Its on the H&R 30mm drop springs from the 854 T5-R. The back sits perfectly as they are softer saloon springs but the front seems a little high to me.

Hi Simon, unfortunately I wont be able to make Thursday after all my blooming promises I am best man at a Wedding on Friday and as its a considerable distance from my house to the Venue I will be heading down the night before and staying in a travel lodge.

You have my word I will be at next months.

Cheers bud, they suit it now but strangely didnt with the standard T5 bumper. Perhaps its because the last set I had were bright silver too.

Been out for fuel tonight and the ride is far more forgiving than with the VST's on. The tyres were that bad that I could feel it loosing grip doing 40 in the rain earlier.

Indeed it was, thanks very much Niles and Justin (t5lover) for helping fit it and more importantly getting the electrics working. Was good to meet the pair of you.

Also picking up a shiny newly refurbed 19T

Here are a few shots from the meet. Excuse phone camera quality, the good photo is one of snoop's.
