Managed to get the head removed today. A little dawning as I had never done anything on this scale before but afterwards you realise as with all things automotive its only nuts and bolts!
Andy is very kindly helping me to rebuild and fit the head. We removed one of the valves from the donor head and there was little or no movement so luckily they are good to go back in after a cleanup. The valve stem seals however were very brittle. Now this engine wasnt smoking so the seals in mine must be practically non existant. There was also some oil on top of the cylinders which would make sense for seals in that condition.
Just needs the new seals putting in, valve's cleaning and the head skimming and away we go for another 100k
You dont know how long these photo's took to upload on this connection seriously I could have driven to and placed them in the server quicker than they uploaded to it.

Good to see it's all going to plan so far and that, fingers crossed, it's going to be an economically efficent repair.
Oh.... I'll get that medal across asap for your patience while uploading the pictures.....
looking good emlyn when you are fitting the new seals make sure that they are seated propley.
Cheers Pete. Luckily the head on the donor engine is in good condition. Need to spend a few hours with white spirit and a cloth now, just get it all cleaned up and de-greased.
Here is the head

Well nothing new to report for now at least.
The head is in for skimming and will probably be fitted now after Avon. Waiting on a 16T to arrive in the post too and providing that gets here on time that will be fitted for Avon too.
I did have the opportunity to substitute the Rica ecu out for an MTE Stage two and I have to say the MTE was far more aggressive and seemed to pick up well. I think I will have to go down the MTE route when funds permit.
So on the list to do is the following at present:
- Fit 16T
- Fit Ported Inlet Manifold
- Fit Tim Williams ported Throttle body
- Fit Reverse Intercooler pipework kit. (made just needs me to get my finger out!)
- Fit Refurbed Head
- Fit new PCV system
- Fit Ported Exhaust manifold
I have everything now but it seems daft fitting the manifold, PCV and throttle body until the head is done as it will all need to come off again.
Here are a few pics after todays cross country journey from Hull to Kings Lynn.
