No they are not Girling. They are ATE calipers with both the Audi logo and VW logo. The discs were 316mm x 30mm but Neal is going to confirm the Brembo part number for the disc so that they can be identified. The pads do hang off the top of the disc but very very slightly about 1-2mm but this could probably be remedied by using 320mm discs but this would have to be tried first for clearance. I'll post a few pics that I took so people get the general shape and what the calipers look like. The pad surface contact are on the disc was so much more substanial compared to both 302mm and 286mm setups and they do perform excellently out on the road as demonstrated by Neal lol.

The calipers used the carriers they were designed for and not the 302 carriers as thought earlier.

A little more digging the calipers look like they are 57mm ATE calipers and carriers for 288mm discs from a VW 99 model. They are calipers on the VW Passat 1.8t model 97-00 MY I think those MY are right but please check yourself.

From first impressions yes they are far better than 302 calipers. I have run both 302 and 286 on the Volvo. The only comparison really will be if you do stopping comparisons with both Volvo and these setups on the same car.

The only thing about the VW calipers are that they are for 25mm thickness discs so if possible someone needs to check if the VW calipers fit over the 28mm-30mm Volvo discs. If not the calipers need to be identified exactly. As I said earlier please check yourself to see if the calipers are correct for you if you go down this route.

i've seen some adverts selling them as an upgrade for Polo's etc which had 256mm discs, so the VW & Volvo scene are chasing them now lol

I think these calipers are the same as Neals http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT There are differences between many of the cars that these are fitted to but the passat and A4 seem to be the cars with these calipers fitted which are the same shape and look like the same model 57mm ATE caliper.
