    T5 engine into s40??

    Hi All

Ok been toying with the idea for a while now and had enough watchin and helping mates trackdayin and racin so i wana turn a s40 into a track car but use the engine out of a V70 t5 i have.

How hard is the conversion and is there a used or prefered kit/mounts etc??

Would really appreciate any help on the above

    Cheers

    Johnny

If you was to do this conversion everything would have to custom made also why is it your wanting to fit the t5 engine in as a t4 engine can produce very good power.

Theres plenty of tuning potential in the t4 engine, is there any reason why you want to put a t5 engine in? Or are you just wanting to try something different.

It would be easier than the idea i had last year, sticking a t6 engine in an s40. lol
Think someone may have mentioned about the t5 engine being done before.
I'll see if i can find the post/thread.

    T4 is only 25bhp less than a T5.
And you only need a quick gander on Youtube to see the potential of these engines.
But tbh you'll probably be better off stripping it to within an inch of it's life and sorting the handling

    Hi
I'm in the middle of fitting a t5 engine in a corsa shell for race purposes and believe me it isn't easy everything has to be custom made including the spaceframed to hold the engine and suspension .
I dont know much about the engine bay of the s40 having only own a v70 t5 ,so you could fall into drive shaft length problems exhaust problems etc. Like the others have said it would be easier and less hassle to fit a t4 engine which was designed to fit the body shell you have.

Haha liam t4 that motto about religion is a good one :-)

im a sucker for the sound of the 5 cylinder its a pleasure to hear, for me a 4 pot jus seems dull (probly get shot for sayin that) lol but i'd like it to happen, lot of my friends have vectra challenge cars and we have done engine transplants on them to bigger units which is easy i know but we also have fitted 1 with a 2.8 v6 turbo which was very different and had to have mounts etc custom made so i can get the resources to do it jus thought i cant be the only 1 to of tried and completed 1??

    Thanks for the replys lads

if all S40's are 4 cylinder, how did Volvo get away with using a 5 cylinder engine in the BTCC?

inless they cheated like Alfa & made just enough 5cylinder ones to get into the championship. I've seen people use modified S60R exhaust manifolds on T4's so the basic engine has got to be very similiar

It'll be massive hassle. I looked at doing it. Decided not to.

for the 850's and phase 1 v70's they all use the same engine just that the t5r has a extended boost period and then the 850r manual has a larger turbo and so does the v70'r etc just have bigger turbos

the 850R manual has a bigger turbo (16t instead of 15g), T-5R has the normal 15g but 30second overboost built into the ECU
