    2.4 S/V70/S60 oil pressure issues

hello everyone new to the site , just thought id mention an ongoing issue for awareness that ive been dealing with at my workplace. I work at a Volvo specialists and we are starting to see more and more 2.4 20v engines in the phase one S/V70,S60 etc suffering from loss of oil pressure!

this may have been covered before but if it saves someone's engine one day im happy enough to repeat it

    oil light comes on.............

After trying pressure switches, oil changes, new filters etc we realised the issue was internal.
On removing the sump you will find two rubber O-rings going too and from the oil pump which collapse over time allowing oil to pump oil back into the sump rather than around the engine!, most cases we have seen are normally non major were the light comes on and off and the first sign other than the light was the cam sprocket starting to rattle/knock slightly.

the seals are both cheap and easy to fix and dont forget to clean out the pick up while your there

here is a typical example of what happens if the issue is not seen in time -

the engine above had the seals fail while on the motorway, the owner failed to stop after the light came on and this resulted in the con rod exiting the block and totally destroying the piston and rod, the rod broke in 3 places and the piston was in two pieces.....i found the gudgeon pin in the sump

anyway, just wanted to make people aware of the this issue as it can be easy sorted before the engine is destroyed

    thankyou
