    FUEL FLAP.Quick question.

If you change the fuel flap on an S60,due to rust,do you have to change the hinge or can it be disconnected?

    Thanks for any help.

I'd get a hinge anyway. They're very fragile and don't cost a lot.

BTW this is one part that I would buy from the stealer. Not because 'genuine' parts are superior quality - like I said they're very fragile - but because aftermarket replacements truly are such crap mouldings.

    Just sayin' . . .

Since mine was just out of warranty the flap hasn't locked. No big deal but, with the current price of diesel, I might be looking into sorting the locking.

V70... check the lock delay time. there are a few settings that can be altered. Have it set to instant lock and youll probably find that it then does lock. Mine had the factory set delay and i would frequently find it wasnt locked... if the hinge or the return spring are weak then the lock doesnt always align and it dont lock.

Its a very cheap fix, i had mine done by my local indy and it was really not much money

I'm getting around to fitting a new flap on Christine, while she was parked at the garage some kind sod broke the flap to siphon the petrol. The small plastic loop that the bolt goes in was broken off so it's a replace the whole flap job.

There are 3 settings... no lock... instant lock... delay lock

The delay lock is so that you can lock the car at the petrol station and then still have time to open the fuel flap and fill the car.

Instant lock .. well its just that.

You will need to get it to someone with the volvo software as its a software mod.

You will need to change the plastic hinge. This is because the 4 locating pins will be pushed through into the car body never to be seen again. The hinges we sell currently are a slightly different design, and appear to be a lot stronger than they were in the past. I know some other places still sell the old stock of the older (and weaker) design, but the new part number is a bit better with far less issues of them breaking. Still the same money from the dealer, the new one part number is 31265160 (old was 30649879 still being sold by some non Volvo sellers). We sell them for Ł6.92 plus postage. If anyone is interested in one of these simply send me a message in the usual way, following the link in my banner below.

Also I can confirm what Wegal has said above about the time delay as being correct. Cars are set to the delayed locking from the factory but it can be changed to instant. The delay is around 10 minutes.
