Took the V70R for a test run today

Well, after a week of refurbing alloys, fitting strut brace, replacing Vac Hoses and fitting the top mount ( also having a new battery today as other had died) I took her for a test run....All i can say is WOW.....What a diff the strut brace makes, she now takes off in a straight line and powers down lovely not much spinning, Also Boosting a lot better with the vac hoses replaced so must have been losing a bit somewhere but the best has to be the noise from the Polybush topmount, i now know what people mean when they say the sound transformation is addictive, Kicked her down and my son said " sounds like a subaru" really meaty sounding now ...
But then we checked the 0 to 60 ( my son has a stop watch on his phone) and she does it in 6.1 secs, not bad for an old girl.....Best of all we saw the local boy racer turning just before us in his raced up Pug, he had a good 100yds on me, so my son Jack said come on dad ( got love sons, great for an excuse to hammer the car) and she caught him up and just sat on his arse, he was that peeved that he pulled on his drive and as i turned into my road he backed up and followed me to my house (about40yds) pulled up along side and said " what the f****ng hell is that" " That cant be an ordinary Volvo" ...Gotta laugh he was really miffed....I just told him i thought it was misfiring, not running right needs a bit of tuning, he drove off very upset....LOL....
But all in all very happy now with...still cant get over the sound just from the polybush top mount......

To be fair accuracy to a 1/10 of a second manually using a stopwatch is hard. I'd say 6-6.5 seconds to allow for inaccuracy.

glad your happy with it, & yes those strut braces make a surprising amount of difference, i was skeptical at first because i didn't think they'd be able to stiffen up a Volvo any more but it did

out of interest (& sorry for the hijack) but have you ever worked out the 0-60 for the R? Working it out from her best 1/4mile run her 0-60 was 5.4

Working out from the fastest 1/8th mile run (being a more accurate way, especially with my car) works out at 4.6 Seconds......but the car wasn't running completely right.

Further to my post (some people probably know this) doing a fast 0-60 usually requires slightly different gear changes at rpms than attempting a fast 1/4 or 1/8 mile. So there will be instances where someone uses the 1/8 mile time or 1/4 mile time and it wont show the true 0-60 the car is capable of. Likely to show a slower time.

sorry yes the calculator i used was 1/8mile. Certainly a time not to be sneezed at in a Volvo

but the car wasn't running completely right.

Fairly happy with the 0-60 time, running right and running the car to do a pure 0-60 time I could probably shave 1-2/10ths off that :-)

Back to the original topic. According to Parkers (take their figures as you will) the 0-60 time of a Auto V70R is 6.8. With my experience with Volvos I find performance is very much down to ambient temperature, running condition and grip. Also air density changes throughout the day. Might have been possible, certainly wouldn't have discounted a 6.5.

I fitted a poly top mount to mine and I too was astounded by the difference in sound it made!

You can really hear that 5 pot growl now, best £25 I ever spent!

I wonder about the benefits of a rear strut brace on an 855. The IPD ARBs stiffen it across the trailing arms, but I sometimes think that this would be such an easy modification - albeit at the expense of 7 seats.

I would be most interested to know the 0-60 on this thing - at this rate will be heading to North Weald or the Pod.

Best bet for timing 0-62mph, etc is to video it on a good camera and then play it back on a pc and time it than, its more accurate.
6.1 is very fast for an auto, especially one thats supposed to be standard.
I'v just been out to do mine and got 6.7 on a phone.
I'm currently having slight issues with mine powerwise, but even when it was running well, i doubt it would have got 6.1, are you sure yours is standard?

Standard they do the 1/4mile in about 16s and even with my issues i'm pulling 15.3, so i'm still quicker than standard but i'd imagine yours to be getting late 14's with a 0-60 of 6.1, which is way quicker than a standard s/v70r.

Definatly seems to be top end with me.
When my turbo comes in it feels fine, then around 4.5k it just feels like the power is dropping off.
We timed it 3 times and was definatly under 7secs everytime, yet yours is pulling better 1/4mile times.
