Bad immobiliser? Not sure if it cuts the fuel pump relay or spark though
You say there's no voltage actually coming from the ecu?

Maybe check the ecu socket to see if there are any issues.
Then test power and grounds to the ecu.
Here is a signal description list of what the pins should be with ignition on and when idling

cheers Dave, I will study that later.
thoughts on this:
If I put an IGN feed to the fuel pump, the car will start and run.
can I just do that? anyone see any issues with that set up?
obviously would need to start the car once the IGN is switched on, so the fuel pumps are not left running for too long without the engine running
Can't see it being an issue. Have it on a switch on the dash labelled up.

Well the separate switch works, which is good
Just something in the back of my mind saying is wrong lol
Oh the fuel pump relay somehow has water damage, even though it’s inside the car
Maybe that’s taken out something in the ecu?? Food for thought
You said you'd tried 2 ecu's unless it fried both of them?
Guessing it maybe shorted and sent high current through the ecu.
One way to test it is to try those ecus in another Volvo...

Well that's good news, Not that I've ever tried an man ecu in an auto, but my understanding was that auto ecu's work in manuals and auto's (and that is true as both my factory manual T-5R's are currently running auto ecu's), but manual ecu's only work in manuals, but as above I've never tried them. I still think there must be a break/corrosion in one of the harness leads or possibly a faulty earth, but hey it's running so that's the main thing, whens your first track outing then JT...???

At least you know now the ecus aren't at fault.
Interesting one, as Moley says, must be a bad wire somewhere.
