Question 2008 V70 D5 dropping boost on motorways

    Hi All,

My company have given me a 2008 V70 D5 as a pool car for the next month or two. After one weekend of driving something rather mysterious happend!

Driving at a constant speed on a motorway for more than about 5 minutes the car will lose the ability to pull and seemingly the turbo no longer kicks in. If I pull over, turn it off, remove the key, wait 5 minutes and then restart it all is well again...until I go on another motorway!!!

I have also driven the car for about 200 miles in one go on A and B roads and everything was fine, so I don't know why it is just motorways and dual carriageways?

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Gareth

Sounds a bit EGR valve like to me. This happed in my alfa, I was able to remove, clean refit and voila problem solved. However, dealers replace and I think they are £200 ish?!?! 30 min job at the most. If that is what is it

p.s does it smoke when you have 'lost boost'?

Thanks, I will mention the EGR valve to the mechanic and see what he says.

I have not noticed any smoke, but that does not mean to say that it is not there.

    ,.,

    boost control valve............
there is 2 on there i think,
most people only change the one near the air box.......
there is another one at the front of the block iirc....
check the vaccum pipes etc which is the obvious thing, but maybe get codes read might give more info.
and if its had the one changed by the air box already, then check the pipes as the replacement one has the pipes reversed,in is where the out is and vice verca
