    S60 D5 Tracs

    Hi all,

Everytime I go around a roundabout or turn the car a certain way my traction control kicks in, even in the dry, it kills the power and can be quite dangerous. I now have to turn it off before I start off. Now I have started getting an ABS light come up and 'Anti skid service is required' which comes and goes depending on what mood the cars in....... This is all within the space of a week.

Are they linked, any ideas how to fix them, I was wondering if originally it was pointing at a new clutch, now i'm not so sure? Any ideas or advice or decent garages anyone can recommend in essex would really be appreciated!

Possibly sounds like a faulty ABS wheel Sensor(s) and/or ABS Ring which could be cracked.

Could also be some dirt in the abs ring.

Hi Rob, sorry to hear that. I never got any dash message up when I had it, it does have a very torque'y throttle delivery, and could spin the wheels easily mid corner, i sort never gassed it till pointing straight .?

i think if the abs light is coming on and tracs, it may very well be a sensor, or an inner CV joint (which has the abs ring). do you get ABS cut in on the pedal , even on light braking ?

Rob,I had a problem similar to this in my S60R.Going round a bend at slow speeds the engine would cut out VIOLENTLY,go,stop,go stop etc.etc.This was accompanied with the engine management light flashing at the same frequency. In my case all went back to normal when I had the clutch and flywheel renewed so it could be your clutch.

As I`ve said before these cars are over - sensored and everything needs to be working A1 or you get strange problems.
    Good luck

    Wink

Thanks for all of the advice peeps, I took it into my local mechanics and he showed me the problem, it is a broken ABS ring causing all my issues, and he thinks that as the ring has split open it has probably broken the ABS sensor too but wont know until it has all been stripped down. He is getting prices for me later today - wish me luck!!

I had this, very intermittantly though. Could go for days without a problem, then be hacking along the motorway and ding 'ABS Service Required' 'Brake Assist Service Required'.

Over-sensitive ABS on the affected wheel, and as you noticed, over sensitive traction control.

ABS ring on OSF wheel had cracked. Beware. My warranty company rejected the cracked ring as it was 'due to corrosion'.

BTW, this was on a V70 D5 just incase people are searching.

    cracked ring

I bet he had a complete driveshaft. You can buy the ABS ring seperate from dealer for the same price of an outer shaft...£65. Getting the ring is an option but then you gotta have it pressed on and it's an inteference fit, so fitting in the correct place is a real bitch. I had a cracked ring on my '99 V70R, it's a common fault. They don't normally damage the sensors although it is possible.

    Outcome

    Hi all,

Had my car fixed yesterday, it was a cracked abs ring.

My mechanic, who I have trusted for years, rang volvo spares to get hold of the ring, they told him you couldn't get the ring seperately it came as one as part of the hub, so he ordered the hub, when it turned up from volvo it was just a hub and no ring, slightly pee'd off he phoned volvo back and they said the ring doesnt come with the hub, it comes seperately!!!!!!

So it now has a new abs ring, sensor, a nearside trackrod end, which was very slightly knocking, and an oil and filter change for good luck - £189 all in - not bad eh?

Anyway its all fixed now, no flashing lights and drives perfect again. My mechanic test drove my car afterwards and commented how firm and positive the car was for such high miles!! Well chuffed!
