Fitting roof rails

Are they easy to fit? How?

And are they 'at one' with the car.... ie can they actually be used or are they just cosmetic?

They are very easy to fit, provided you have the bolts for them.

You just need to remove the plastic trim you have on your roof at the moment, and cut it to the right length from the A pillar (just measure with the rails for this) and then just put the rails on, put the bolts in, and voila, job done


And if you want to know if they can be used, this should give you an idea!!







That roof rack weighs about 1/2 tonne with everything on it. It's 1.5" box steel, 4mm thick, with wooden decking on it, and it's perfectly fine. I've had about 1/4 tonne of scrap and garbage on there too that I took down the scrappy and tip too!!!

So do they bolt on from the outside? I take it there are threaded holes under the existing plastic trim?
Would I need to cut and reuse the trim? Surely I could just get the trim from the donor car?

PS, what rear bumper and skirts are they on the blast beast?

Yep, that is why they call me Crazy - one of many reasons!! That is mental, it has a hammock that slides out the side!! heheeee So if you ever see my Volvo at a show (got a new one now) you'll generally find me lounging in the hammock on the side


You can either cut your existing trim or get the trim off the donor car, either will be fine. I cut my trim on my 850. There are threaded holes, you're right



The sides and rear bumper are Erebuni ones, really looked awesome I thought They have since been sold on, but haven't seen them on another car yet, so they may turn up on eBay, so worth a look out for.

Ade ..do you want them for cosmetic reasons or functional, if you need roof bars I have original Thule roof rack kit for a Volvo without side rails if you fancy them?

With Thule bars on your rails you won't look back. I love mine. Rails are great for shifting stuff - 8x4 sheets in particular. But as Dom (Crazy) demonstrates, you can get a lot on an 850. You can get Thule for non-rail cars, but rails look great IMHO.

Wanting regular roof rails for functional reasons!
It's a photographer's trick..... they're perfect for wedging ladders against for high up photos!

Ade, if you're after it for those reasons, get something like my set up - can stand / sit on top much better for photos
