    Warm hanger 12 hours and a 16T

I was at work this weekend and finally decided to get to do my turbo change/ upgrade of the 15G to 16T, and presented with the oportunity to use a warm hanger and complete the job at work seemed to good of a chance to miss.

I started off removeing the heatshields ontop and to the side of the turbo and as those who have removed them before will know they are a pain in the arse to get out. Luckily however I have treated myself to an early christmas present and bought some wratchet spanners. Anyhow shields off a matter of no more than 12 bolts and the turbo would be off. 4 Hours after I started I had the 15G on the floor, happy days.

Fitting the 16T was an absolute doddle compared to removing the old turbo, after just over an hour it was on. I did however make one mistake and overtghtened and sheared the lower water pipe as I later discovered after finding Niagra falls was now flowing from under the car. 30 minutes later chopped down and replaced, took it for a 10 mile test drive and all is well.

After the 10 mile drive I assumed I had checked everything over thoroughly but never assume, I got 30 miles down the road and grind to a halt as the car lost all power and engine cut out, oh crap I thought. Turned out that injector 1 was pissing out petrol everywhere as the left hand injector rail bolt head had been sheared off, needless I was unable to remedy a solution at the roadside so had to call a friend to be towed back by rope the 30 miles I had come.

All fun and games hey? Guess what Im fixing tommorrow!

For those that remembered my drama when I bought the car with the boost problems I thought were the down to the turbo after having replaced all vac lines, distributor, rotor arm, coil pack, ht leads, sparks, maf, injectors and tps.... well it wasnt and it still doesnt drive right. Last two things Im going to try are knock sensors and cam sensor, failing that I give up!

I did exactly the same thing (bizarrely I found out when I arrived home after replacing my friends gearbox on his escort, at 1am in the morning, so I fixed it there and then, 1.30am cooling system in bits LOL). Then a day later, the other end of the hose split. So I had to get a new one from Rufe.

Just a thought, was it doing the boost problem when it had the RICA ecu?

The HLM came from your old car yeah? What year was that?

Yes mate I have tried three different ECU's which are all compatible according to the Turbo-tuner website, I had the original T5-R ecu with it also which I have tried and it does the same.

Basically when you go above 0.8 bar on boost it hesitates and jumps and almost boost cuts, its weird like some sort of vibration. Smithness has drove it maybe he can explain too.

Do you know anybody that can weld? Reason saying, cut the cat open, gutted it, and weld back up, your be able to test out the broken cat theory cheaper, then get her de-catted properly

Yes mate.... however its getting equipment thats the issue, besides powerflow is only £50 to do the job anyhow.

Yes mate had a look and all seems ok I had a forge blanking plate on and it seemed in mint condition.

    **UPDATE**

    Car is fixed!

I went to fix the fuel injectors yesterday after my breakdown and decided to fit the whites again but change the fuel rail as it was one of the fuel things I hadnt changed. Once I had drilled and extracted the sheared of bolt and got it all fitted took it for a drive and all drove well. I played with the MBC and cranked it right up to 1.2 bar and it ran sweet as a nut.... PROBLEM SOLVED!
