For your info, my car is a 98 s70r auto (pre me7) on 101k miles.
Started the car up after work today, starts instantly as usual, got 2 minutes down the road and the car went to cut out (revs at about 500rpm), then went ok, accelerated (normally) to about 3000rpm and then it started spluttering and the revs dropped, just managed to get into a side road before it died.
When i tried to start it up again, it wouldn't fire properly (would get to about 600rpm and cut out), so tried again and gave it some gas, managed to get it started but it stunk of unburnt fuel hitting the cat.
As i drove down the road it was feeling a bit jerky, but as it warmed up it smoothed out, but definatly had a lack of power, so i nursed it to some people i know at a bmw indie.
They were about to close but spent 45mins trying to help, straight away they said they could smell it running lean.
I went out with 1 so they could see how it felt, when he put his foot down there was very little power untill over 4k and no wheelspin, even when it kicked down (which in the cold and damp is very unusual). It felt ok when past 4k, but was very slow getting on boost.
There are no warning lights on and the only fault code was fuel mixture lean.
All the intercooler hoses were fine. We did find 2 things though, 1 is that there is a small oil leak from around the turbo area, which is new because when i had the silencer removed, last month, me and duane both had a good look around underneath and would have noticed this. The other is that 1 of the mechanics thought that the actuator was to tight.
After he had adjusted it, the AFR's were showing as perfect though the revs (when in neutral, so not on boost) and it did drive much better but the car still seems very laggy.
He thinks that the problem is turbo related, but is doubtfull whether that would cause it to cut out and struggle to start up as the turbo shouldn't effect it at idle, their problem is they don't have much experience of volvo's.
The car will be going in next week, so they can have a proper look, but he suggested i ask on here, to find out your ideas and experiences.
Very sorry for going on, but i'm a bit puzzled, any ideas???
