    0-60 & 1/4 mile timer Free.

Having been unable to attend Avon Park this time and seeing a Chavie Fast car magazine with free 0-60 timer and 1/4 mile timer I had to speand about £4 I couldnt resist it.
Emmmmm its a stopwatch with a hair band attached to it!
Oh well my cars not 100% but will be at the end of the month so I thought I would post a couple of b4 and after results.

I have only tried the below once so not sure on how accurate!
    I could probably do better
0-62 6.3 seconds on a very bad tarmac
    20-40 2nd gear 2.3 seconds
    50-70 3rd gear 3.1 seconds

BTW - i bought a TOMTOM 700 sat nav unit over the weekend. You would be supprised with how inaccurate your speedo is. Both the Fabia and the Multipla are 3 mph out by 30 mph rising to 10mph by 120mph.

To be 100% sort of sure, do 0-70 on the speedo and assume it will be no slower than whatever you record.

Mine at 32-33 mph is actual 30mph, 0-60 was more like 0-65 so not far off , in gear times probably a better reprisentation.
I know from the pod and avon I was bring in around 95-98 mph at just around or slightly over the 100mph speedo speed.

Andy I broke my old mobile and havent got your number anymore mate!
Any chance you can Pm me or buisiness card!

    Times and sat nav

    Hi guys n gals,

In my V70 my Garmin sat nav shows approx 5-9mph slower then the speedo above 70mph. Below 30mph the sat nav is faster by 3-4mph and between 30-70 they are within 1-2mph.

What does this mean? How do we know who is right?

This could also effect my max speed because my Garmin max speed is 164mph by then the speedo was attempting to pull, itself out of the dash. Anything over 140-145 the volvo speedo that clearly says 160 is drunk off the end.

I heard that a derestricted and tuned V70 can do over 175mph but I can't get mine anywhere near that;;;;boo hoo must have a slow one!!!!!

Does show the power of the Volvo engine though becasue when some friends who don't do Swedish saw it we had to go out in all their motors; C class AMG 151, Scoobie with all sorts of coloured pipes and noises-meant to be really quick 153, Porsche boxster 2.9 158. So all the big mouths had to stop saying the sat nav was reading fast and bow to the power of the beast.

As I assured them the best thing is we could all get in it at once and go out for another go; so far no takers for the childseats in the boot at 160+

Anyone else done a max speed run on sat nav or worked out the errors?

i'm using a Garmin as well & getting about the same results, i'd say the satelites are correct

i would say your'd have to have some very serious mods to get 175mph with the aerodynamics that we've got

Like adding a sixth gear, surely? If I were doing 175mph I would be expecting 5 piston shaped holes in the bonnet of my 850

We use TOMTOM's (GO, 300, 500, & 700) at work. They all read between 7% & 8% difference between GPS speed & Speedo reading!!!!!!!!

Call me thick but surely the speedo must be generally more accurate.

The time it takes to receive and compute the sat nav info must lead to some form of lag hence doubt no matter how good the technology?

I know my Garmin unit struggles when you either accelerate hard or brake heavily then settles back down at the new speed. This must be a sign of inaccuracy?

Saying that the speedo seems worthless at anything over a ton if the sat nav is anywhere near accurate.

Does anyone know what volvo think the errors on their speedos are?

my Garmin is normally in constant contact with 7-8 satelites when on the move so imo there is no doubting its got to computer power to provide accurate reading. Yes there is often a lag on updating speeds/distances but i think you'll find this is a programmed delay so our little brains can see some form of number instead of constantly changing numbers.

The speedos on our cars have had ?k's miles of wear & tear on the components, & suspect even 1mm of tyre wear will affect how accurate the readings are

GPS is accurate, speedo isn't, end of story.

Anyone who does 1/4 miles etc will know this, trap speed is always less than indicated speed due to over reading on the speedo.

I dont own GPS but I have some average speed clocks near by all I know is 32-33mph speedo is 30mph at avon park at around 100-104mph speedo, was 97.55 mph.
But santa pods give slower trap speeds for about 100 mph I was getting about 94-95 mph which is right?

Ive had the car upto 150 speedo speed as standard and 156mph with Rica a worn turbo and a hot day possibly suffering heat soak!

I can only guess my real speed to be around 145-150 mph

I also did a 50 -70 3rd gear and it came out at 1.8 seconds so I cant have pressed the timer right need to do again.
