Thanks Mas, and it would be good to grab a coffee one of these days since we are so close. My challenge is that my work is pretty varied (long hours, random countries...) so I can't make many of the "regular" gatherings, but maybe we could do a Herts Gathering (Viking, Troll, you, me, maybe some of the other local crowd) over Christmas period. You know, the bit between Christmas and NY when we all need a break from the families

Likewise, if you need to borrow tools or something, just shout

I did try breakie at the Silver Ball cafe once but only two of us made it , hopefully in the Spring we can tempt folks out of their bunkers, and summer maybe even a barbie and spanner session in the paddock.
( I'm O.K at barbecues but crap at spanners )

Any weather is good for me though

THANKS to everyone for the help! Especially Engineer for pointing me to the link on the VOC.
Nice one.To fail your car because of tyre contact made months or possibly years earlier was frankly ridiculous. As buyers we are constantly told not to take a valid MOT as proof of roadworthiness as things can fail the day after the test. That is the point. At the time of your MOT the tyres were not rubbing so it cannot be failed on this issue.
I think they simply saw sense and realised they didnt have a leg to stand on.You should still have told them to get stuffed after you picked up the MOT though.Did you?

No, I told them that I thought about appealing to the Ministry, but didn't. They're nice enough and I wasn't in the mood to upset anyone this morning!

Appreciate all the advice as I said

Other options... rip out the arch liners... fit narrower tyres... raise the suspension... any more?...
For god sake Al, this is NOT an MOT fail!! The tester is being an arse. It is well known that Volvo V70s rub the wheel arch liners. My R does on full lock and that's with 'Black' new bump stops fitted. You can purchase from the dealer a pair of black metal plates that bolt up under the wheel arch liner. They hook onto and are held on by a 10mm nut. easy to fit and will prevent your tyres from cutting into the liner. However, like i said, it is not an MOT failure m8. Mine just went through MOT at dealer last week and did not fail for very same thing - and my tyres rub on the metal plates that are designed to protect the inner wheel arch liner. They are about £13 each ofg the top of my head.
