H1's are the dip beam, H7's main beam. I'm not 100% on the mains, they could be H1's aswell

I've only got HID's fitted to my dip, they are bright enough to do without mains!

Volvo 850's never had H7 bulbs. The first 850's up to 1994 had H4 bulbs, then after 1994 they had two compartment headlamps which both used H1 bulbs.

H7 bulbs were used when the x70 series was introduced in 1997.

That is unless you have some aftermarket headlamps (which could possibly be different)

edit - Lol, missed t5pete's post, where he says this.

They are a generic kit, so take a bit of fiddling to mount the ballasts and route the wiring into the headlamp unit. Wiring is simple, you just plug the factory bulb connectors into the ballast (via the included leads), connect the ballast to the bulb and thats it. No need to cut into the existing wiring system, or anything dodgy like that.

I have the level adjuster turned down in the car, and so far have only had one guy flash in the whole time I've had them on (and that was because I had got my headbeam on) and I do a fair bit of driving after dark (especially this time of year), so no problems yet. But they are very bright.

I'm currently looking for some projectors to retrofit into the standard headlamps as a little project.
