Last time I use a backstreet garage!

Well I have had quite alot of travelling to do over the past few days and I have done over 600 miles.

Anyway went to see Peter Kay in Sheffield last night and then had to travel to Accrington to see family. Woke up this morning to find a flat tyre! Marvelous I thought.... although it was at least the tyre close to its limits.

Anyhow I was in an unfamiliar area so I asked a taxi driver where I could get tyres. He pointed me to Ishrams tyres. Ok so off I trot.

Arrived and they said no problem i have a part worn £20. Ok ill take it. Out he pops with the most worn just legal tyre I have ever see to which I say "sorry not having that!". Minutes later another tyre is produced a new pirelli. Ok ill take it... how much? He wanted £60... Dont think so.... I said £40 or nothing... much hesitation he agreed.

So he changes the tyre then rolls it back. But he hadnt balanced it. I asked him to balance it and he said rears dont need balancing... no I said you WILL balance it.

All balancing done tyre fitted off I went.

Got back to find a recently refurbed Titan with two inch line of missing paint.... NOT HAPPY

I've used a few places like that myself, I always use the same place now as I know they'll look after my alloys.

If they're anything like my local Kwikfit avoid them like the plague.

Well I have had bad experiences too with Kwik Fit. Also could I have gotten a premium tyre for £40 fitted and balanced... dont think so. Although I certainly didnt pay for the service!

    Part worn places suck!

I went for a cheap set set of road tyres for my Sierra a while back and was told £100 for a set of tyres that looked as bad as the free ones we get from Kwik Fit that are getting thrown out!
    Thanks but no thanks!

I just buy new for the road now at all times. When I used to get part worns I was forever having punctures as well due to so many being previously run flat or having bad repairs. Not worth it, and that's coming from a Scot!

    Details.... please

Are they reasonably priced? My biggest problem is the normal place I go to does really good part worns (michellins and Dunlops) and never damages wheels. As I am such a regular I get to pick what I want.

This unfortuantely was an emergency situation. Had it not been the end of the month I may well have had the money to go somewhere reputable.

FAIW for the Titans (or maybe other > 7" rims), it has to be placed upside down on the machine during removal/installation. That way, you'll not scratch the outer surface of the rims.

That seems a really good price, I remember once getting a quote for 225/45/17's on a Heavy Load index on my V70 and the cheapest I could get was £120! Good job it was a company car at the time. They had a policy of only fitting Dunlop SP Sport Maxx Tyres on though and when all four were changed kwit fit charged them £700!
