New Update: The new block has two cracked liners, but has been shimmed and repaired by Tim Williams, and after a chat with him, he says it will be fine, so my block has one liner cracked and Tim sees no reason why I can't simply repair my block, so that will save a huge amount of work. Also, if it works I will have a 2.4 shimmed block for sale.

    So 2.4 blocks split aswell........

I think the 2.3 block is a lot stronger....... when was the last time someone said they 2.3 block had a split liner ??????

2.3's don't split, but I was running stupid boost when mine went, so I'll rain that back in a bit when it's all back together.

So, even if a liner splits, as long as the engine's shimmed it's fine?

I know of quite a few on t5d5 with repaired split liners, the only down side is you may have a little coolant loss, I can live with that as long as it doesn't pressurize the coolant.

Liners tend to split with high boost and north of 400bhp

For every litre you get 100bhp on a n/a engine and just under 200bhp when turbo'd

So a 2.3 turbo'd engine will only make a max of 460bhp any more than that and you asking for trouble.

I don't understand where you got them figures from, but they don't seem to make much sense.

When I was at college years ago we where told that in an ideal world a 1.0 litre N/A engine would produce 100 bhp, when you turbo a 1.0 litre engine in an ideal world it would produce 200 bhp, but as the internal combustion is so poor in turning air/fuel into power it would only produce about 60 bhp N/A or 120 bhp turbo`d.

So on those lines a 2.3 turbo`d engine in an ideal world produce 460 bhp.

Anything above this figure you are asking for engine failure eg, split liners.
