Fingers getting dirty again...15G to 16T upgrade

Well I decided to start getting ready for the 16T to go into the Volvo today to replace the 15G.

I think starting at half two was a bad idea but hey I have started now. Firstly let me say smithness you were 100% right the heatshields are an absolute pain in the arse to remove. It took the best part of an hour to remove them, well I say remove them I only managed to take the heatshield covering the turbo off the other is just pushed out the way. I know now I want some wratchet spanners for christmas!

After this thought ill start from the bottom of the car and work up so jack and axle stands to remove lower downpipe bolt, two lower manifold connection bolts and turbo return pipe. Got all of this done bar one of the manifold bolts as somehow I decided the best thing to do was tighten it rather than loosen it!

Ran out of light after this

Hopefully get the rest undone and 16T fitted in place tomorrow

    Wish me luck!

Lol wait untill you try to re fit the heat sheild i remember when i first did it, it took me ages but after doing it loads of times they do get easier.
Also are you removing the manifold to replace with a me7 or s60r one if not theres no need for the manifold to come off just undew the 4 bolts on the turbo flange to the manifold flange to release one of them i find a stubby spanner the best thing to get in.
    P.S. good luck tomorrow

same as me mate, my engine in standard form i reckon is lucky to be pushing 200bhp, as it's a lttle ill with the smoking issue and with 20psi it only went up to 262bhp, when it was supposed to have 250bhp with 10psi so as long as i can get it mot'd i think i'm gonna forge my spare engine rods and pistons and a garrett t4, thats what i would like to do money permitting

    I'll be keeping the R, don't worry.
Depending on what emlyn is doing now he's getting an 854, i may be buying james 18t (emlyn has 1st refusal), as he said its a big enough improvement over my 16t.
Before the end of the year i'll be getting a new grill, removing the "suitcase" (short term untill i get the whole exhaust done), getting the wheels refurbed (2 of them have a mark on them) and trying to find a good ebc for a decent price.

Excellent decision mate. Not sure whats on the T5R at the moment probably still a 15G, money will be tight for me after this purchase until I sell the T5 so will probably have to let you buy the 18T mate.

I'v got to get the money 1st too, as well as what i'v alreay said i want to get, i'll be wanting to get better injectors and an extra oil cooler for the auto for when i get a bigger turbo. Plus i'll be paying someone to fit it for me.
I still have to get new headlights as well, which are stupidly expensive, but they may have to wait untill after the turbo.
All this means that it will be a few months before i can buy the 18t, so you've still got 1st refusal.
