    1ST PROBLEM soddin gearbox

    1ST PROBLEM
Think the autobox on my 99 v70r awd is about to fail, bangs into 1st and second gear and erratic gear changes, had to nurse it home on limp mode on two ocassions. If anyone can recommend a gearbox specialist in Bradford or surrounding area's would be much appreciated.
    2ND PROBLEM
When reversing left or right there's a thud/cracking noise that seems to be coming from the rear axle, sounds pretty central, inbetween the rear seats if not a little further back.Any ideas on this one and the cost involved?
    3RD PROBLEM
Whether to keep the car at all, aswell as the problems above it also needs an ABS sensor, ets unit, cambelt changing and a compression test(blowing a bit of smoke now and again, fine when you start it up no smoke at all).If i try to sell i'll get sod'all for it or do i throw a few grand at it and get it running right?Thinking about the latter at the moment, wife thinks i've lost it.Been looking at a few 03-04 plate R's,don't look as good or have the same road presences as earlier 850 v70's.Thanks again fella's.

Welcome! Glad to see another Bradford lad on here! If you want me to pop over and have a look at it I'd be more than happy to. Where abouts are ya? I'm near Wibsey.
The smoke could just be the pcv system. Which I can give you a hand doing.
I'd have to look at it for the other stuff.

Not got a garage but I've plenty of tools. Not really clued up on the awd system but I know from what some of the lads have said on here they can be problamatic.
Gearbox might just need a good flush and fluid change (fingers crossed)!

    Hi,
The Abs can affect the Auto box . It did on my one , in t limp mode ect ,as it uses the speed singinal from the ABS to control it.
Fixed the ABS = instant fix to gearbox in my case. But yours may be diffrent.

I also would recomend a fluid change ,if it is the 5 speed box use volvo oil.
I belive that there is a replacment hydrulic valve asambly for these if the above dose not help.

As for the thud noise get some one to check all the bushes cv joints ect at the back.

    Regards Rogerb

I had ABS fail on my 70 and it turned out to be the sensor cable had rubbed through under the wheel arch. Worth checking.

Have you tried looking at the propshaft center bearing !
Mine creaked and thumped , only in reverse though strangely.
It would seem its in the middle of the seats as its right below ish !

I was in a ££ dilemma myself but as it does it only in reverse ,and you have to get a new prop to fix it, I still have the problem.
I grease it now and again.Lol
I have had a new transfer box 5 years ago, but from what I can remember, she never went into limp , or changed gears funny !!!

Not spending any more big cash on her as I have a 850 T5 runaround also.

Yes I agree the new one`s look horrible and early one`s have speed limiters that need to be removed.
    Shame though.

Good Luck, hope you sort it
