Joined the club, but problems on first run

Just picked up my 03 V70 D5 SE, I have to say I'm very impressed. It's so comfortable, and quiet.

    Couple of minor niggles though:

There's a noise from the dashboard area, that I thought at first was the climate control fan, but it seems to be linked to when the car is on boost. No throttle, no noise. Is this normal? It is quite noticible. Even my wife commented on it.

Took it on it's first motorway run this morning, and I've been greeted with 'ABS service required' and 'Brake Assist Service Required' messages. This along with a rubbing noise from the nearside front when turning right, leads me to suspect there may be a problem with the braking on that wheel. (Just call me Mr. Holmes!). Could this just be an ABS sensor that's got crudded up from being stood for a couple of months?

Either way, I'll be in touch with the dealer this morning to get them sorted, just wanted an opinon from real people.

Oh and the steering wheel cowl seems to be rubbing and squeaking. I'll have to fettle that this weekend.

Other than that. What a car Deceptivley quick as well.

    Welcome to the club

Firstly, what type of noise is it, creaking, whistling, groaning???

ABS wise, it MIGHT be that its been stood a while, have you tried STAMPING on the brakes a few times??? You could also have a slightly seized caliper due to it being stood.
Also, check your wheel bolts, make sure they are nice and tight

My cowl can squeak from time to time, but its only started in the cold weather. The plastics seem to get creaky and moany at this time of year.

I guess you've got some sort of warranty, so you should be ok

    Thankyou, Goodnight....much love

hello, describe the noise on boost a bit more for us all, my car makes a loud wooosh noise when i floor it i was worried at first then was told its the turbo doing it's job! ( now i like the noise) noises do travel so a noise in the dash may be coming from the front of the car, just a thought.

enjoy the forum and the car.

    regards tony.

You must check this thread out - it sounds REALLY similar: http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthre...ighlight=noise

I would also give the dealer a list of the faults and get him to sort it all out. That's why you went to a one isn't it?

I've had the same 'ABS service required' and 'Brake Assist Service Required' messages not long after I bought my barge. Probably a result of clogged ABS sensor ring. I "cleaned" mine with a well directed blast of water from a hose pipe . Never come back (maybe quick driving blows the dust away rather letting it build up

Noise from the dash board area - not sure. My CCU fan can be relatively loud at times when it's being asked to cool ot heat quickly (manual mode with fan turned up). tTe other noise is the multi-tone whistle when the turbo spools up. Quite noticable at lowish speeds but gets drowned out from about 30mph upwards. Sometimes get a dump whoosh when changeing gear but only really noticable with my window down. Can't really hear it inside the cabin normally.

Deceptively quick; wait 'til you remap it

    Boom Boom!

Well, the ABS has sorted itself out. Went out, started her up again and all was ok. Dealer I brought it from was contacted at 8:30 this morning and was actually very helpfull, I just like to understand these things.

Will look into /listen to the noise.

Well, the same faults came back on the way home tonight. Happened again at motorway speeds.

Same again, got home, went out 10 mins later, started it up and the message 'Anti Skid Disabled' with ABS warning lamp.

Switched off, started up again, no messages or warnings.

I did notice towards the end of my journey, with the ABS warning on, that the ABS was cutting in during relatively normal braking.

Seems to be ok again though.

Thinking a 'Well Directed Jet Of Water' tomorow evening after work.

Um, did you just contact the dealer or have they had the car back and checked it out. At least the codes need reading first.

I only spoke to the dealer. In fairness he managed to get me booked into both a main dealer and indie specialist if I needed it.

Only problem is that I live in my car during the week, so I didn't have time unless it was a real issue. Anyway, it appears to have cleared up properly now, without any water jets. Got the morning to have a good look over her in the light, but I'm suspecting it was just a bit of crud on a sensor. Will look into the bulkhead grommets & bungs to see if anything is adrift re: the noise.

200 miles later and I'm liking it! 5th gear overtaking... Effortless!

    Small update.

Been getting the warnings on every run recently. Bloke I brought it from got me into the main dealer to have it diagnosed and it turns out the front right ABS ring is broke. As in actually split!

    Getting it replaced under warranty.

Shrewsbury is now my local dealership - even though I still take my car to HLM down in Bromsgrove.

I shall do this in teenage style...
