Hi Guys,
My auto T5 doesnt always kickdown when I floor it?
I was under the impression that if you pressed the gas all the way to the floor an auto box should always kickdown.
Am I missing something?

get the fluid level checked 1st.
The box will only kick down if the road speed allows.
Do you have a 4spd auto or 5spd, as it would be more common in the old 4spd, should never really be a problem in the 5spd unless something is wrong.

fluid levelis fine, i recently checked it
i dont know what speed it is? how do i find out
1998 R - reg
is this a new car to you? these correct me if i'm wrong, have an adaptive gearbox that learns your style of driving if you are aggresive all the time then it will kick down easily and all the time but if you are usually a slow driver you have to "teach" the gearbox a new way of driving. ive done this in 2 of my t5's now
wow, sounds advaned and yes it is a new car to me.
so it learns my driving style? cool!

if its got the sport option, flick it onto that and see if the kickdown comes into play!
850T5R accept no substitutes
it has the sport and when used, it kicks down a lot. but surely there goes fuel
I have a '98 S70R with the 4spd auto box. When in economy mode it tends to take it a bit easier and won't kick down unless it has to. Guess it determines your speed and thinks it ain't worth it for the fuel economy?
Once its in sport mode though its a different beast. No more chillin out and kicks down all the time bringing a big happy smile to my face until I have to go re-fuel
to be fair though it doesn't use that much more fuel in sport mode, but ican't see it being too good for the box being used in sport all the time.
Bailey dump valve + Boost gauge + Manual boost controller + K&N induction kit + Powerflow cat back exhaust + Strut Brace + Bilstein shock n sports springs with 40mm drop
= very fast and still turns corners
I leave my S70 T5 in Sport all the time - If I'm really gentle with the pedal it will still upchange at low revs as if in economy but more importantly it will very quickly downchange and take off when I press the pedal and want it to move unlike leaving it economy when even a good hard press sometimes has little effect.
Has had No effect on my mpg - if I drive it easy it gets about 21 mpg around town the same as it does in economy mode.
Thanks guys, think I will try sports mode for a few weeks and see what happens. I usually get 24mpg in economy mode so lets see what happens
