    I have a crazy (stupid) idea! An S40 T6!

While at work today i came up with the idea of getting an s40 and fitting the engine and transmission out of the s80 T6.
I know that it is a stupid idea but as i know nothing about engine swaps i was wondering if it was possible.

I am totally serious about this, so i'm asking you all to see if you can help me with some info :-

    1.Is it possible?
2.Around how much would the job cost?
3.Where would i go to get this done?

If anyone has an ideas/info then please, lets hear them.

    Please don't laugh at me!

Anythings possible if you chuck enough money at something. We talking about the original S40? If so I'm not sure there is enough space under the bonnett for the engine and gearbox......

    ,.,

i think all i can say is good luck with that,
not wanting to slate the idea mate but.......

1- i dont think it would actually fit in the engine bay,or it would atleast be tight.
and crap to work on when needed.and trying to get all those electronic bits to function inside a difrent body would be a living nightmare as everything will be programmed to perticular items and coded etc.and the wiring would be a day from hell trying to connect to the parts needed to make it run properly.
and im not sure the body would be up to the job of all that extra power etc.

2- cost wise i dont think would be worth it, how longs a bit of string..
you would just be puting a bit here and a bit there to make this fit and that fit etc.you would probably need to modify a large part of the car to take such a change of heart.it would be cheaper to buy something quicker lol.

3- im not sure many people/garages would get involved with such a major transplant,
but saying that i expect theres someone who would be brave enough.

interesting project, dont get me wrong but man thats a lot of work, and unless you had some reasonable mechanical skills it would probably end in divorce lol.

4- not a bad idea tho

Would have to be the original s40, cost and the fact that i have a soft spot for the 1st s40.
Gettting an s40 would be pretty cheap and i doubt the s80 would cost much either, it would just depend on the amount of work required to get the t6 engine into the s40.

Would a t5 engine be easier to fit? Or another engine?

T5 might be easier but will still be a tough fit. Still require a bit of fabrication so not sure it would be overly cheap to do.....surely modifying the 4 pot that comes with it would be a cheaper options....and isn't 300bhp possible anyway?

i think your money would be better spent on a proper car..something capable of takin power etc....ie a rear wheel drive...no matter wot you fit in the volvo it will always be front wheel drive so youll never really appreciate it for whats fitted under the bonnet...
v8 in a rear wheel drive...thats where its at lol.

It was just the idea of having an S40 with the T6 engine that i liked the idea of.
I'v heard different stories on how much the t4 engine can take.

My original idea was a 940/960 with a T6 engine in it, for the rwd, but as i'm mainly interested in straight line performance i started thinking about s40t4's as they are my fave volvo.

You need a shoe horn and baby-oil to get the regular T5 engine into an S40... never mind a T6!

Chuck a 400-hp-capable built T4 lump in it. Much easier, and I have one I don't need in my garage

Can see that for driveability you might prefer the T6, but hugely more work!

Would your t4 engine fit up with an auto?

What power would it be running, i'd like around the 300bhp mark, so that it would still be drivable and that it wouldn't destroy the gearbox.

I assume you would be looking to use an Auto Box Liam? Assume this would limit power in fear of distroying the box?

If i remember correctly, his engine is built to take upto 400bhp (forged internals) but was running under 300bhp.

    I know someone who's got a 370bhp T4 up here... looks like a totally standard S40 too
