Mark if your looking i've added you to MSN Messenger, if you dont have it download MSN 7 its 2 min on broadband, if i were you i'd take it to Tony Sephton, Auto Electrician at Worsborough Dale if you know it, he has a gadget which can read your fault codes and maybee give you an idea of a fault, Volvo should have done that though, ask Tony to write the codes down if it shows any and report back.

"Very little boost" could mean anything. Has he plugged a boost guage in to see what its actually producing? What other symptoms have we got? How does he/she know its got very little boost - where is the boost lacking, all the way through the revs or top end? Give us a little more info!!

Also have the obvious elbow joints etc been checked?

Wastegate too slack, bleeding excess pressure too early? or Turbo Knackered.

Check all the turbo hoses for leaks, check all the vac hoses, read fault codes, etc etc etc, the list is endless, or take it to a specialist to look over

S70 boost issues ? Me too

HI all. First post from downunder. 2 weeks ago picked up a really cheap but mostly sound 94 850 Turbo, which I'm thoroughly enjoying ( 60,000 miles, new cambelt, well specced, for approx 1800 pounds equivalent). Whilst looking for that, came across a 97 S70 2.0 T ( Singaporean - we have a few SG imports here in NZ) which I picked up for a song , about 2000 pounds equivalent) The manual suggests the 2.0 T should have same output as the 850, but it just doesn't. So much so that, I opened the bonnet to check there * was* a turbo bolted on under there.
So it's off to the Volvo agency for diagnosis. I'll post an update when we know what's happening.

    I definately agree with Justin.

What does your friend hear while the turbo is spooling, any whooshing air sounds (obvious boost leaks), are the boost levels consistently low, or is it just sometimes, or what?

It's hard to diagnose the problem going off of a tiny bit of info.
