I was doing a little reading on google and it appears some 850's had a form of cabin filter and others adapted a "carbon" filter to do the job of a cabin filter.
I think you need to isolate the source of the smell as the vents just wouldnt be the only factor.
Arguing is pointless....she may not be right but she's never wrong

i dont think they have a cabin/pollon filter.
Try this link... without looking at my car cant be certain as to the accuracy but his signuature claims its a 94 plate 850

Mmm well assuming the "96" model 850 as its called is no different you may have stumbled accross something that was unknown to the masses.
Thanks

I retro fitted a pollen filter to my old 850 and it cured the occasional nasty whiff from the vents. I bought the kit from a main dealers, iirc £20-£25, you install it under the plastic scuttle panel on the nearside. I'm sure it only took 10 minutes to fit.
The nasty whiff could also be a build up of bacteria in the heating/AC system, those 'anti-bacteria' canisters work a treat too.
Agree with above that it would be more like bacteria living in your vents
try a sanitizer.
Thanks all ... glad to be of service by default lol ... opened mine up and nothing there !!!!! previous owner must have removed and chucked it ... anyway going to get some spray and a replacement filter
Cheers Frosty
