    Homemade R.I.P Kit... Anybody tried?

I fancy fitting an RIP kit onto the old bus but really cant afford IPD prices and seeing some of the costs people have payed for the 94 model version I thought I might have a go myself, surely all you need is pipe, hose and jubilee clips.

Wondered if anyone else has done this before or if its a no go zone. I reckon I can get the jubilee clips and metal from work, so its just the rubber pipework I would need.

If anyone has done this or if anyone with an RIP kit has the dimensions for all the pipe work etc in a diagram that would be fantastic.

    Would appreciate thoughts and suggestions.

    Cheers

I've got 57 mm on mine currently, but going to 76mm when I fit FMIC in the not too distant future.
I bought a box of intercooler pipes and hoses/ clips off ebay for about £80 which did the job quite adequately, you'll need a reducer down to 50mm to go on to the turbo and a tee (25mm) to take the pipe from the idle control valve.

As james says, Pedro (the photo ho) will post up pics when he sees this

It seems ill need a trip to coventry with some 3 inch pipe, clips and hose then.

Also where can you get the hoses from as I assume the usual samco kits dont fit as its not the same shape etc.

    p fandango.... where are you???

as said sorry for the delay. Firstly the reason i used 3" is because i fitted a 3" throttle body off a Volvo 960 (not to everyones taste). BT had the original Volvo RIP kit which had pipework about 50-55mm, the 76mm pipes & larger throttle body really improved things

    heres the pics

    top pipe

    IC bottom to throttle body

before the 19mm idle control port was added

    sizes are
    turbo output pipe is 51mm
    bottom IC pipe is 51mm
    top IC pipe is 55mm
960 TB is 75mm, not sure of the original T-5 throttle body size

the IC bottom to throttle body pipe needs a 19mm joint welding on for the idle control valve, however i'm not using mine so will swop for the same size length of tube to save you some bother. As for the silicone joints if you contact "nicenewcar" on ebay directly with the list he'll do you a very good price, i've got a 76mm 90degree spare you can have & more than happy to help if you want to venture into lovely Coventry lol

throttle bodies, 960 on the left T-5 on the right

Where did you get the silicone hose joints from claymore? I like the table leg idea. From the picture it looks like the diameter is exactly right to just slip onto the intercooler.

Having done it yourself would you say its a relatively easy job?

This is my only slight bit of confusion. I dont understand why you need to weld onto the throttle body? Can you not just use a straight or elbow reducer hose?

I may well end up paying a visit! Knowing my luck ill take everything apart, damage the original stuff and be missing an esential joint!

you need a 19mm onto the pipe going to the throttle body, not the actual throttle body itself. Its for the idle control valve, otherwise when you shut off the throttle it would stall as no air is getting to the engine, i'll swop you mine with the piece already welded for a straight section the same size

thats no problem, i'll pm you my phone number in a bit

Cheers pedro it all makes sense now! That would be great as my welding skills are sloppy! Being a complete bif here I think but am I right in saying judging by your list above I need the following:

    Top section:
    -1 Meter 3" Steel
    -1 90 Degree 76mm
    -1 45 Degree 76mm
    -1 76mm to 51mm reducer
    -1 45 Degree 76mm to 55mm reducer

    Lower Section:
-1 90 Degree (whatever size throttle body is assuming you used 76mm again for 960 TB)
    -1 45 Degree 76mm
    -1 45 Degree 76mm to 51mm reducer

Would it be easier just to get a 960 throttle body? If so is it a straight swap?

Re throttle body, you need to open up the inlet on the mani with a flap sander, took me about half hour and also extend the wires as the t/b is rotate 90degrees, the pic whore will post for you lol

yeh swopping is no problem, i was getting ready to find something to block it up lol

    Top section:
    -1 Meter 3" Steel
    -1 90 Degree 76mm
    -1 45 Degree 76mm
    -1 76mm to 51mm reducer
    -1 45 Degree 76mm to 55mm reducer
yep, i've got a spare 76mm 90degree you can have as well

    Lower Section:
-1 90 Degree (whatever size throttle body is assuming you used 76mm again for 960 TB)
    -1 45 Degree 76mm
    -1 45 Degree 76mm to 51mm reducer
the reducer bend onto the bottom of the IC is a 90degree

Would it be easier just to get a 960 throttle body? If so is it a straight swap?
it is quite an easy fit, the manifold needs porting & the wires for the TPS (throttle position switch) need extending. Some people don't like the 960 TB becuase they say it makes the throttle a bit like a switch & either on or off

I got a couple of spare inlet mani's lying around if you want one so you can sort the t/b before and just swop the mani's. Foc just pay the postage or collect at avon?
